Sell E60 M5 for F10 M5???
Hello all,
I currently have a 2006 E60 M5 with around 33k miles. Though the car sounds insane with its aftermarket Eisenmann Race Exhaust, I feel like an upgrade, now that F10 M5's are cheaper. Do you guys think that this is a good idea? I am thinking of an F10 M5 around $35k, therefore, the milage will be 60k+. Thanks everyone! |

I have thought about that, but I do not want to add too much horsepower. the S85 is known for engine problems, and clutch problems. I do not want to dramatically decrease the life of my rod bearings through uping the power.
Furthermore, I want a car thats more modern, and with a better sound system. My M5's premium audio isn't good at all! (but what have I to say when the car offers a V10 soundtrack from the factory). |

I had an e60 m5 smg before I upgraded to a 2014 m5 cp. No regrets. The V10 was awesome but the smg killed it for me after a while. The dct alone is worth the upgrade. Not to mention the stump pulling torque this thing has.

I had an E63 M6, lightly modded which felt a lot more nimble and fun than the F10.
The M5 is a heavy car and truth be known I miss the M6. However, I noticed you worry about future mechanical issues and costs and that is why I chose to upgrade. That and curiosity and the torque is huge!! Its an incredible highway car and faster than the V10s but you will miss the sound. As far as handling, it is a little disconnected feeling even with the comp pack but the capabilities of the car are superior. It is about 400 pounds heavier than the M6 but if I recall correctly only a couple hundred more than the E60 M5. If you want torque, you will like this car-it is immediately available and will push you back in your seat. |

F10s big downfall compared to the e60 is the steering. It has little to no feedback and let's the car down for sure. The turn in specifically isn't very confidence inspiring in the f10....
But it's fast as **** and more reliable than the e60 |

I would say possibly the f10 handles better but i dont find it gives you the confidence the e60 does
Ive done sway bars and mono balls and bilstein shocks on the e60 and it handles very well |

If you were me, would you get an 80k+ mile F10 M5, or keep my E60 m5 (33k mile)?
Which one would probably cost less money to own long term? (E60 M5 has clutch and rob bearings to do soon) |

E60 M5 with the an F1 inspired V10 has to be a future classic and will go up in value. The F10 is very usable, has huge performance and great handling - despite what some say, if you are anywhere near 7/10ths the car does shrink around you.
For day-to-day driving - F10 wins For a lovely bit of kit that will go up in value - E60. |

I agree with the House Won; 80,000 miles on an F10 is a lot and you are probably trading a "known" for an unknown. perhaps find and F10 with way fewer miles and you'd be a lot better off.
