Too much power?
I'm a recent M5 owner. It seems that when i merge onto small roads or turn right at a light or stop sign, it's REALLY easy to spin my tires. The tires are relatively new and i try to accelerate slowly but it seems like i either crawl forward or lunge ahead and spin. Is there just too much power?

It seems like you're in Sport Plus mode for the throttle? Try switching to Sport.
As far as tire spin, you gotta change your rear tires to at least 305's. |

I did find sport plus for throttle too sensitive, but you have to get used to that amount of torque, if it's wet n cold you will have to manage grip levels. I think part of your challenge will be getting used to the very small amount of turbo lag and adjusting naturally. I drive sport plus everywhere apart from throttle, which is in sport

Power & Torque
Your car has a lot of power and torque for the rear tyres to deal with, so grip depends very much on the quality of the tyres, the condition of the asphalt and the ambient temperature.
On cold days, below 7C say and your tyres have very little grip. Add wet asphalt and there's virtually no grip to contain all that torque. Conclusion? On cold, wet days on summer tyres use 'Comfort' throttle settings and go easy on the gas. |

that used to happen to me even in comfort a few weeks back, i used to give the car to much throttle before the clutches engaged and it will cause the wheels to spin, now in day i am managing to drive her better.

Tx for responses. I'm in comfort mode during daily driving when this happens. Tires are 8 months old, pilot sport. Temp 60's (socal). I'm working on throttle control when accelerating slowly just having hard time w the m5. I think the issue is heightened when engine is cold...not quite as bad when all warmed up.

Well known issue here and our lack of traction. I always felt the differential should do a better job as well but the key as most have stated is throttle modulation or running it in Sport which lessens the throttle sensitivity.
After I drive my Turbo S or Lambo for a few days I tend to nearly lose it in the M5 at first cause I have such a heavy foot with the two first cars and their AWD grip.

I have this same problem. Brand new tires and cold temps, it is hard to turn left or right out of my neighborhood without the rear slipping. Feels like binding when fronts are turned. I have to take off very carefully.

I never had balls to turn off the DSC on sunny California days () and do crazy stuff with my M6 but now I do it even on wet roads with lots of confidence while I'm behind the wheel of this little M car So I believe the AWD 600+ HP M5/M6 will be a real fun car

Coming from a 335 I also felt the M5 was too much power when I got it. The crazy thing is I don't think that anymore, and just about any car seems horribly slow in comparison. Merging on the freeway and everyone is going 75 and it feels like a parkinglot.

I recently changed my tyres to Pilot Sport 4s and these tyres have alleviated the problem to significant extent. Of course, power of M5 will always trump the tyres but 4s reduced my rear tyre spin by about 60-70%.
Of course, I can still spin them if I am trigger happy but these tyres are a revelation from word go. Even when cold gives me immense grip but then it has been relatively warm in London since I got them. I have tested them between 10 and 30 degree Celsius. |

I wonder why I don't have this off the line tire spin problem. Guess Im doing something correct. Never had it at all and those who know me know I have a heavy foot when needed. My wife drives my car all the time and never reported back any issues in all of our 122k plus miles. I guess some guys really are mashing down to the floor. I only do that at home. lol

I went 315. My aftermarket rims are 10.5. But I've known ppl to fit the 315 on the oem rims just difficult
