Beep, beep beep, beep

My neighbors can always tell when I am washing the beast. As I gently run water or a wash mit over the door handles the car will lock, unlock and lock again. Beep! Beep, beep!

Other than putting the key fob far enough away, anyone come up with a "wash mode" or work around so it doesn't sound like disco in my driveway when it's time to get squeaky clean?

If you leave the fob inside the car, it will not go off.

Good call, I'll give it a shot. Any worries about the doors locking with the fob inside?

Better have your other fob on standby inside your house ... just in case.

As far as I know, it should work.

So if you get in the car, with the key fob, and lock the doors, Im assuming it disables any unlocking from the door handles from outside correct?

If the fob is inside the car (ignition off) and you exited the car (without the fob) and you pressed the door handle trying to lock the car, it should NOT lock (beep) at all since the car detects the fob is still inside the car.

I have not tried it myself but my previous car (Lexus) prevented me from doing the above

Therefore, I suggested you should have the backup fob ... just in case.

Only if you lock using the button in the center column will it disable the door handles. This prevents someone from entering the vehicle if you got chased inside. As long as the battery on the fob doesn't die or fall into the backseat you should be fine if kept around the cupholder slot yall have.

Yeah this is what I was envisioning - being chased into my car and comfort access allowing them in! Fail!

What if you have auto locking feature programmed after the car starts rolling? Does this also disable the handles?

Car won't lock from outside handles with key inside. Guaranteed.

That or leave key on 10 feet away while washing

My E60 used to do this at the self serve car wash when I would rinse it with the spray wand. I have wash the F10 and keep the key in the garage several feet away. It has not beeped before but I didn't take chances. Interesting about leaving the key inside. I wondered the same thing about not being able to re-enter. I have enabled the setting that locks the doors automatically after a period of no motion. Wonder if that happens if it will allow me to unlock from the outside with key inside the car.

Hmmm not sure about that one, I will have to check that for future knowledge. I would say yes at first thought though.

I would think so too - if not anyone could just open your door as youre sitting at a stop light. Not cool.

With BMW Assist and the corresponding iPhone app - not sure if they have Android - you can lock/unlock the car from anywhere as long as your car is in range of a cell tower and you have internet access.

This would save you in the event you lock something inside the car - like your keys..

Did this with my E60 M5 recently - forgot if I locked my car when I parked it at a hotel, after making the lengthy trek from the parking area into the lobby. Pulled up the app, locked it remotely. Like a boss...
