drivetrain malfuntion
Hi I received today on the dash: drivetrain. continue the journey at a moderate speed. Full performance not available.
the car had a very rough idle, and it was idling at ard 1000 rpm (higher than usual). as soon as you get to 2000 rpm, the starts shaking. Has anyone had this happen to them before? I will take it to service first thing friday morning, but need someone to tell me if they know more. |

No it's not in the trany. As Greg just informed you go get them replaced. We all have had this same problem and resolved it by this replacement.

Solenoids for what exactly?
I had the same issue a few weeks ago, was filling up (left the car running), once I got to 3/4 of the tank, the car shut off on its own. After I started it up, it had a rough idle, and barely drove... I had to drive it in 1st gear (6mt), because in 2nd it would nearly stall out. Tried shutting it off and waiting, nothing... decided to keep driving it to make it back to my shop and out of nowhere it started driving normal, the issue went away. I restarted the car no more issue, check engine light was on but I cleared it and it never came back. Read before that others were experiencing this also when filling up their car after it was nearly empty. |

Bad fuel for sure
Had it more than once and after changing the gas station which sadly was Shell!! V power!! But since change zero issues! ! That gas station caused my previous 550i to have all spark plugs and injectors changes which is thousands of dollars!! |

As some of your were saying, the car was on low fuel when this happened. Just refilled the car at a different station and let it rest for a couple of hours. I will try starting it up again and see what happens. If not, shes off to the gas station tomorrow.

Low fuel is diff but u did not state that in your first post. In my case the car was fine driving. Stopped at home got back in car and couldn't go anywhere due to dt mal. Replaced solenoids and perfect ever since. And I never let my tank get low

turned on the car, there is a loud noise coming from right where the engine cover is.
Weird sound, and the drivetrain malfunction is still showing in the dash. |

bad fuel, bad plugs, faulty injectors, fuel starvation, faulty sensors (any), bent valves or could be million other things. THe car throws that message to let you know that "something" is wrong. Take it in and let the specialists take care of it. After that.......go beat on the car.

Dont let them tell you otherwise, but then again warranty is another issue in countries outside of US.

Happened on my F10 550i several times. Thought it was fuel Nope. Dealer replaced coils, fuel injectors, O2 sensor, etc. Twice. Last fix was low pressure fuel sensor. Ran like a champ then switched it out for a 2014 M5.
Get to dealer ASAP. |

Woaw.. That's alot of parts to fix.. they chnaged the sparks at the last service interval about 1500 miles ago. A friend of mine just told me that he had the same problem with his M3 and it turned out that there was water mixed with the fuel. This is what you get when you live in a third world country..
How much damage would water mixed with petrol do to the car? |

Not sure if all those parts needed to be replaced. Maybe just padding the factory warranty fix bill. Stuttering and transmission warning issue happened 3 times. 3rd fix was the fuel sensor. Was feeling a bit like a lemon. Again, ran like a champ once sorted.

Good luck figuring out what the problem is. I'm up to 4 drivetrain malfunctions in the first 1,600 miles. The dealership had no idea what the issue was until they talked to BMW. BMW said some part in the transmission needed to be replaced, but I'm not 100% sure what part. The dealership just received the part. I have an appt next Tuesday to get it fixed. Hopefully that resolves it.
