An actual strong competitor?

Hi all,

I've been looking to upgrade my E60 M5 and where my kids are now growing up and can drive I don't need the extra space in my car, the GT3 has always been an option as well as the 911 Turbo but if I'm sticking with a saloon car then what about the Alpina B5? It's got almost the same engine 4.4l V8 twin turbo and produces 540BHP but it produces 50NM more torque at 730NM it's got the same 0-62 time of 4.3 seconds. I was shocked to see how close the Alpina came to the M5 and the fact it's more exclusive does tempt me, I must say it doesn't look as nice as the M5 but the performance
Wanted to know your thoughts on if it would be a serious contender with the M5?

Thanks

It's good contender. There is a video out there floating around of the Alpina B3 Turbo versus the F80 M3. The Alpina beat the M3 in terms of luxury ride, but the M3 was the better sports car for drifting and such. Same goes for the B5 I suppose. Alpina's are not meant to be fully fledged race versions like M's are, therefore have greater comfortability and luxury to them. They are a great overall package for someone who's not looking to take the M5 to the limit often, and truth be told almost every ///M car ever built is overkill for the streets. Even the F10 M5, which has been described to me by some as a very fast luxurious leather couch. Some of us do want to drive racecars on the street though, so we have our ///M's.

I would have expected the Alpina with AWD to out accelerate an M5 to 62mph.

The only issue I have with Alpinas is that I find them to be pretty ugly looking. I hate the front bumper design, the wheels, and the steering wheel on the Alpina.

I think i would pick a "mainstream" M5 over an Alpina B5

I'm not sure about B5, but M5 "in real world" goes 0-60 in sub 4 seconds!

When I say mainstream I mean that you're more likely to see an M5 than a B5. If I am being honest I don't like the front or wheel of Alpinas but I don't mind the steering wheel. I think a GT3 or a Turbo

regardless of performance comparisons, why would you bother with the alpina when it doesnt look half as good as the m5?, hell the m5 doesnt even look all that great.

if you want the best performance the 911 turbo will destroy just about everything out there. literally.

if you want the overall best car out of the ones you mentioned, and room is not a factor, the 991 gt3, hands down.

I'm leaning towards the Turbo just because of the sheer performance, my god that thing goes, I think White with a black interior
