JB4 Bluetooth Kit

Folks, I have a quick question I am hoping one of you can help me with. I ordered the JB4+BCM for my M5, along with the Bluetooth connection kit.

Will I still need to order the USB cable to do the initial setup? Or can I have it paired with my phone without it ?

Sorry for the lame question, just want to make sure I have everything ready to go.

No USB needed, just install the Bluetooth kit and you make all changes/settings from your phone

Correct, no need for the USB cable. You can change all the settings within the iPhone / android application.

Thanks!

Just seamed like a security flaw to have a bluetooth connection anyone with the app could connect to.

To an extent I guess. Not sure what the security protocols are but definitely seems like anyone with an app can connect to it.

I had the same thought when I first used it. How does it know which unit to connect to in case let's say we have multiple cars running the BT kit. It seems to me it just does a search and connect to the unit broadcasting.

It's not a perfect solution as it has its flaws but beats having a computer and USB cable lol

The bluetooth authenticates to the first device used to connect to it until "clear blue tooth devices" is selected within that application to reset it. Given that and the relatively low range of the unit it's been solid. I know a future software version will have a password system where even if you don't lock it to a device no other device can connect without the password.
