Performance Technic | F10 M5 build with local member (Akra, HRE, M6 Steering Wheel)

BIMMERPOST
     Featured on BIMMERPOST.com
We have been working with a local M5 forum member here in the Bay Area over the past couple months. His F10 M5 has really come together with the help of Nate@iND and some hard to source OEM parts. Build thread below and professional photos recently added below.

2013 M5 in Alpine with extended Sakhir....hope you all enjoy. Please feel free to PM me if you have any questions.

The M6 steering wheel is a Euro part. It will be in the new M5 coming and currently in the M6.

Interior Trim swapped out for the Aluminum.

UPDATE:

As our first phase of upgrades comes to a close, we thought a photoshoot was a good idea. It has been a great experience working with the owner of this M5. A true car enthusiast with a very high standard, our favorite type of builder and now a new friend. We'd like to thank Nate@iND for his help in sourcing some of the parts, including the painted reflectors and Akrapovic exhaust system.

With the customer's help, we were able to source a lot of Euro-only parts. These parts are what truly set this F10 apart from the rest. Stay tuned for the next phase of upgrades and enjoy some amazing photos of the Bay Area.

Enjoy!

That car looks awfully familiar. Thanks for helping me to realize my goals, Joe. I didn't think some simple car upgrades would turn out to be such a good friendship and opportunity to meet such great people.

As has been mentioned it just plugs into the OBD port under the dash (comes with the cable/connector) . You store the small control unit inside the dashboard and route the cable to the OBD port. It can be simply unplugged for service/coding etc .
Also no battery draw when the car is turned (other gauges did draw power and left you with an empty battery)

More details on the BMW install can be found at
http://www.p3cars.com/bmw-install

I have the P3 gauge in my M5 since last year without any problems/issues

I have an extra "analog" boost sensor that can be used if you go crazy with modifications.

Otherwise, as jmh said, everything goes across the Flexray bus.

I think the install of that P3Cars gauge was less than an hour. We should have a batch arriving next week. If anyone in the Bay Area wants one for their F10 with install.

Great build, car looks fantastic.

Quick question, what is the car part numbers for the OEM LED lighting and Performance Pedals? Do you need two sets of the OEM LED lighting to replace all the bulbs in the M5?

Thanks for your help!

LED bulb kit is 63122212788 , you may want to order two kits to replace all bulbs in the car
The M Performance foot rest is 35002232276 for the gas pedal and DCT (also manual transmission) , also available here http://www.bmwpartspros.com/partloca...subcat3=193425

Exactly how I would setup an M5 if I owned one. Great work!

Awesome pix and photoshoot. All of your mods are well thought out and extremely tasteful. Of course, I like the the color as it goes well with all of the mods. Congrats.

looks good,

about the steering wheel. it looks a little bit slim for the bulky M5 interior. not sure what to think about that. is that now included at the factory ?

nice taste in mods though. i like it.

Whoa I was just about to say that my favorite thing is the you guys were able to retrofit the M6 steering wheel on the M5.

Now my question is what is your source that you know that this steering wheel will come on the LCI M5? I consider myself to be in the know on the latest M5 developments and I have heard nothing about the LCI M5 incorporating the M6 steering wheel. Please enlight me/us. Thanks!

Maybe the customer will chime in if he wants to share. But he sourced the steering wheel and the associated parts to get it all to work. The steering wheel wasn't an easy project, but it came out great.

Dave - couple resources, including my contacts and the parts catalog. The current wheel has an expiration date of 7/2013 and the M6 style wheel has an introduction date of 7/2013.

If you look at the F30 M Sport and of course the M6, this is the direction BMW is headed.

Damn it, I am picking up mine May 10th. I guess I will be stuck with the old wheel.
Do you have any other info as far as part replacements? Is there a performance version of the M6 steering wheel?
