JB4+BCM vs. Dinan Stage 2
Does anyone have any experience with JB4+BCM vs. Dinan stage 2. This would be for a 2016 M5 w/Competition Package.
$1,049 JB4 vs. $3,346 Dinan JB4 possible warranty issues vs. Dinan-No warranty issues. Performance of each? |

Race gas alone on a stock car will give you more lol. Jb4 look for upwards of minimum 50whp+ to the ground. Or 75-100crank HP |

lol...i got 99 whp (509whp - 608 whp) with MSR intake and Dinan stage 2 install. I love my MSR intake but I sure don't think it gave me 89 whp.

The Dinan system is probably more equivalent to the BMS Stage1 in terms of performance. The Stage1 is easy to install and very popular.
The JB4 is a more advanced tune and the BCM module adds another level of complexity on top of the JB4. The JB4+BCM would be for more hard-core enthusiasts who are in to datalogging, tuning themselves, track times, etc. Mike |

I was obviously being sarcastic. Moral of the story is Dinan = 4K vs BMS stage 1 for $500 lol and BMS wins! Lol |

Its fairly clear the issues are manly with the installer (boost leaks, pin outs or incorrect connections etc) or the car (plugs and or coils) not the JB4 or BMC. I have followed your posts and guess the Dinan solution is probably more for you due to your worries. |

Yeah, just trying to weigh the risks. Tearing something up and being faced with a big bill on a car that I am leasing vs. a little less power and no worries.
Maybe the JB4 is not a big deal, but reading the issues on the n54 forum does cause one to be wary. |

There is no way I would ever consider going Dinan stage 1/2 if I already had the JB4 installed. The only negative I will say about the BMS Stage 1 / JB4/ JB4+ BCM is the torque curve is not near as good as flash tunes. Even in my car today with BMS Stage 1, I hate how its very noticeably that the torque peaks at like 4-5.5k rpm. I can really understand how folks like Imran from Evolve claim 1/4 mile , 60-135 MPH, 0-60 times way above folks with the JB4+BCM even though they are putting down the same peak WHP. My Two cents is your fine with your current setup. |

The reason the torque peaks is it hits the demanded torque value so levels- up the demand (fueling allowing - meth etc) and torque will go higher until the turbos are all out at ~30psi- time for upgraded turbos then. a flash tune normaly have the tables set for a more gradual ramp but this can be done with a JB4 in the tuner map where you can ramp boost(torque) by rpm but also allows you to ramp down boost by gear i.e lower boost target in first and second to help traction.

Dinan offer their own warranty in case BMW refuses to do the work. So you are losing BMW warranty with either tune (if anything goes really wrong) REmove your tune before your dealership visit and you will be fine Jb4 is by far the most popular option so of course you will see more problems, but compared to the numbers of units sold it is as reliable as any other option if not more reliable

See attached. Once you get stuck in it all makes sense and the trepidation you feel will evaporate. Just take you time, its easy if a little fiddly.
Take some photos as you go and post here and report how you went. |

Of course, I was the special snowflake. I kept getting TMAP Sensor 2 short to ground 120908 code. Tried everything. Different grounds, re-connecting/disconnecting, clearing codes, bumping firmware. What do you guess? Dispute my credit card and kill myself? Ok. |
