Wish we had Couple of options in M5

Dropped my car for the 1200 mile service...
So far i was thoroughly impressed and more than happy with the purchase..
heard it will get better after this service.

But i wish we had the option of ading ceramic controls and Auto H

Auto H, may be technically not feasible

but adding ceramic controls to this cabin would have added that extra fineese to it.

Why would you want Auto Hold? The F10 M5 already holds the car from rolling back on hills when you take your foot off the brake.

For the other feature of the Auto Hold where it applies the parking brake for you while you are driving like in heavy bumper to bumper traffic, the DCT doesn't act like an 8spd Auto BMW transmission. Once you've come to a complete stop the M5 will not begin to move forward automatically. Creep mode I actually find useful in heavy traffic. Creep mode can bring the car up to 6mph I think.

So it makes no sense to have Auto Hold with the DCT transmission.

Ceramic controls would be nice though, but I'm sure that it adds more weight to the car which is the last thing the M5 needs.

You can have ceramic controls upgrade at your BMW dealership and the weight difference is unnoticed.

I have ceramics in my 550i and they get VERY hot on warm sunny days, would prefer to NOT have them.

I had them in my previous car they really add nice touch to the cabin, current silver looks like cheap plastic.

I never felt that they are too hot to touch

Yes, with the small 2013 controller as in any 5 series. The stick is not available.

Any pics to prove it? I haven't seen ceramic controls in any M5. I understand you can buy OEM parts and change it but it's not official right?

Looks like Its not official.... basically a retrofit.

But with out the stick it wont look right better to leave it as it is.

This thread includes a picture of the iDrive Touch controller in ceramic
I did the retrofit a while ago.
Ceramic controls are not available from factory and the retrofit is very
expensive if you want to change all buttons. The HVAC unit must be replaced to
swap out the control buttons (and coded) .

It IS surprising that the ceramic controls are not even an option. I would have gotten them. Same concept of full leather. It's a necessity for me to feel like I'm in a $110k 5er, vs a $50k 5er. But that's just me.

The ceramic controls are very nice - strange why they don't provide it as an option. I can't believe it has anything to do with weight.
