Clunk here as well - I have learned to live with it so far. Another wierd flaw that this car has that makes no sense to me.

If i was to guess cars built from April 2013 will have modified springs.

There is no re-call issue hence it is up to you to take it up with dealer.
When you go back to your dealer next week, ask them for the replacement BMW part numbers that were used to fix this issue and post them for us. It would certainly help us with our local dealerships that sometimes don't have the best information.

Thanks.

So far so good. Still slight clunk but it is the same now as one with Schnitzer springs. Had a friend who drove mine to confirm it is same as his M5 which has Schnitzer springs.

I am sure the slight clunk is now the norm but after being used to the heavy clunking your mind expects there to be none after modification which would be impossible for such a car.

Hi Mate,
When was your car built ?. Mine is a Jan 13 build, and i have only done around 500 miles in it, but dont seem to have any clunking going on. I have a slight thud, going over rough broken back roads sometimes. Is the clunking you had, very noticeable, and you would know if you had it ?, thankyou, regards, SIMON.

i just brought mine in to have the matching kidney grilles installed and clear some error codes from being stored over winter. i decided to ask them to look into the clunk as well, as late last year i was told there would be new springs etc. released this spring to address this known issue. however, they weren't aware of any new springs. but after some testing they were able to reproduce the clunking in the rear AND the front and said they ordered new springs, shocks etc. so like a whole new suspension, for my car!

this kinda surprised me as i was more expecting to hear "yeah we cant really determine whats going on with the clunk you're hearing".

it was also interesting that the first few days the car was in (i was out of town and left it with them) they hadn't been able to determine the problem, but then on the 20th, they called and said they checked and there was another "measure" released on April 18th. and it was describing exactly what was happening with my car. so thus, the parts are on order...

hmmm.

i wonder if it will correct the clunk.

My car has been with my dealer for the last two days having the clunking fixed - they are working on both the front AND the rear suspension.

Collecting the car in a couple of hours. Hopefully the BMW fix will work.

Just collected the car. So far so good The clunking noise seems to be gone. Tested it over about 15 speed humps and it seems ok so far.

Here are the parts they installed.

One of them is a passenger side sun visor which they put in for me without the ridiculous yellow airbag warning sticker which is on display all the time (they did that free of charge which was good of them ), so please ignore that one.

I confirm that this issue is fixed for me now (1.5 year since my first complaint). BMW service has an official campaign to deliver reworked springs which resolve the clunk sound. List of replaced components were exactly as in Aussie_F10's attachment.

Thanks for posting the parts list and letting us know of the fix. Do you (or anyone else) know the SIB or campaign information that I can pass on to my service advisor? They aren't able to pull up anything.

I got my car fixed yesterday at the local dealer - replace the rear coil springs n the front dampers, did wheel alignment again, and after numerous bumps, the suspension is quiet. Happy camper here, and it took only half a day to complete the job.

Finally my car is going in to have the clunk solved! Took only 14 months and 36.000km before BMW realized the problem. :-(. Fitting new wind screen too ( blurry HUD ).

It is a loud thud type noise and you should not have that noise.

I had the same done last week and it is completely new car now ! No more cluncks from the rear or rattling while driving over roadbumps etc. Also it seems like it is more progressive.

Like it should have been in the first place imo

Last year I had the modification done but the clonk was still there but better.

However I installed Schnitzer springs last week and the clonk is gone. Car is 25mm lower. Steers better as well. No body roll.

Had the new twin 90mm exhaust installed as well. Sounds amazing.
