High miler F10 owners
Anyone running a 60000+ miles M5? I'm interested in the reliability, problem areas, major items which need attention at that stage.
Thanks! |

I see no one has really responded to your question.
RPIM5 has gone a different way with his car from a maintenance perspective. I'm not sure about boots. I'm at 74k+ right now. I had a wheel beating issue early that resulted in the wheel bearings in the front being replaced. The issue never reappeared. Other than that, the ownership had been smooth sailing. Oil changes and top offs, gas, tires, alignments, brake pads (3rd set, still same steel rotors), spark plugs, coil packs, rear diff fluid changes, reseting the kiss point for the clutch, etc. All in all an uneventful maintenance experience on a car that has seen some HPDE time early on, put mainly spirited driving on road. I've got a 90+ mile (one-way) commute that I do once or twice a week and then just the general running or weekend trips. It is still on the original shocks and springs, still the original clutch packs, have a stage 1 bms box that was added late in life and BMW 12mm spacers all around on the stock 20s. I also have a set of 19 inch stock wheels shod with winter performance tires that I use in the colder months. Car was delivered in Oct 2012 at the Welt so it is a 2013MY that people sometimes complain is a bad year. It hasn't been my experience and always disheartened when I see people talk about 13s with broad generalities. Interior is Silverstone with the extended leather pieces (seat backs, lower doors, etc) which has held up very well to my 6'2" 290+lbs of girth. I've taken care of it but never babied it. Exterior is the same...holding up really well. No wraps. I think there has been a child in it less than 5 times. We have no kids. Pictures are from this past Monday. |

Any chance of pics of the Silverstone leather drivers seat? I've seen a few Sakhir Orange interiors that look quite worn after 10-30,000 miles.

The majority of the wear is on the lower section of the driver side. The other seats look practically unused. |

My concern was based on this earlier thread where the Sakhir Orange was outright ruined!

The example thread you provided has definitely not been my experience with silverstone interior. I think the comments in the thread indicated there was a belief that exceptional abuse or neglect had occured.
I've had and continue to have leather in just about all of my vehicles. That would include leather from Chevy, Buick, Lincoln, Dodge, Infiniti/Nissan, Jaguar, and Audi. The BMW is the first near white that I have had, but I've had light tan / cream in several, a midtone gray, and black. With the exception of the Audi, which I just haven't had long enough to make a comparison, I would say that the BMW Silverstone in the M5 is no more difficult to keep clean nor would I say it is more prone to wear issues than any of the others. At the end of the day, the seat is a wear item. Replacement foam, and leather sections are available. If I have the car to 100k miles and I decide to freshen up the interior, I expect that the driver bottom, left side section is all that I will be having addressed by an upholstery shop. Throw $800-$1300 dollars at it for your expensive luxury rocket, which is close to 1 payment for many people. If you found an M5 that was perfect except for seat wear on the driver bottom just consider that as an option. |

I'm right at 60k miles on my 2013 M5 It's black and black so seat wear doesn't show, also, I only weigh about 125lbs, so I guess that's a plus... I would never own an M car out of BMW warranty, that's why I paid extra to buy this as a CPO. Selling it now actually, I expect it to go within a week or two

Proper cleaning and (possibly more important) conditioning of your leather will keep it looking new. It's a pain sometimes, but so worth it.
