Is it me or is this piss poor service?
Over a week ago I made an appointment for the 1200 mile service knowing the car mileage would be very close when it was dropped off today by my wife. She calls at 16:00 to see if its ready to be picked up only to be told, " we didn't have an oil filter in stock so we weren't able to do the service". Are you kidding me? I called the SA and asked how a major BMW dealership, would not have the correct parts in stock especially when given over a weeks notice. Frankly I'd be surprised if the oil filter isn't the same as the one for the 550 V8 engine. So now we have to wait until next Thursday to get the 1200 mile service done as its the first time we can get it there. Further I'm going to have to reduce my time driving the car as otherwise I'll be well over the 1200 mile limit. Very disappointed how this (didn't) work out.

I concur. Time to switch SAs.

I agree on the dealership but I would expect the oil filter to be different.

Baron is the dealership we use also. Had nothing but great service, both from a sales and service perspective. But yes, you are right to be miffed. As you said, they were given more than enough time to order the part knowing that you would be coming in and, to add insult to injury, your wife had to call them in order to receive this information. It sounds like they were going to keep it, hope not to hear from you and overnight the part so that it could be completed the next day..... Disappointing if that's the case. I'll be sure to make sure they have the parts when ours goes in for its 1200 mile. Who's your SA if I may ask?

I still wonder if the oil filter is different in the M5 versus the 550, etc. though. Bish |

I am not suprised to hear your complaint. I think the likelyhood of this happening is correlated with the size of the dealership. I suspected the small dealership from which I bought my 1M would not likely have the specialized lubes for the car so I first called parts and asked if they had the dif oil in stock using the part number. After getting a negative answer I told them they better order it as my car will be coming in for service two days later. The I called the service adviser, told him what I needed and referenced the appropriate tech bulletin. He said they will get it ordered. Whew! I suspect they would have just put in the dif oil for the regular 1 series. Now that I see your post I will do this again before I come in for the 1200 mile....We really shouldn't have to do this.......

Same thing happened to me last month. However, I received a call 6 hours after drop off stating that a mechanic stepped on the oil filter and they would have to keep my car and order a new one. Quite ridiculous.

It's amazing how dealerships leave all of their preparation literally to the last minute.

same
Same thing happened to me. I was waiting at the dealership, getting the 1200 mile service, and my SA came out and told me they were embarrassed as they didn't have the oil filter in stock. Had to leave the car overnight, was ready the next day. Gave me a X5 diesel to drive home. Also gave me a BMW hat and coffee mug, and 4 quarts of oil
