Gas price steps from regular to premium!
I know we are under the control of the giant petrochemical companies when it comes to gasoline, but it seems to be getting worse. The European members here will probably laugh, I believe their gas costs are considerably higher than the USA, but in Michigan at least the steps from regular to mid-grade to premium used to be 10 cents each. I've noticed in the last months that has increased, first to 15 cents and today one station had premium at 50 cents a gallon more than regular. Our prices here are around $2.65 to $2.70 USD for a gallon of regular. Has something changed in the refining process to make premium much more expensive? Or is it just the usual bend over and take it from the oil companies? Or possibly the station owners, posting competitive regular gas prices on the road display, and then gouging the buyers of the higher grades?

LOL... Good for you... here in California we pay over $4 for a gallon
But the difference between different grades is still around 10 cents

gas prices
This is one of those things that will never make us happy ( customers )
Petrochemical industry has everything worked out to the absolute MAX, how to make it ( gas ) cheaper, quicker, most efficient way ( profit ) There are more pipelines, rigs, and full infrastructure to support it ( production ). in 1960s price for crude barrel of oil was about $17, then in 1970 it went roughly to about $55, that translated roughly to about 70 cents a gallon. Today price of oil is about $60 of crude and it translates to about $3.5 a gallon It does not take a genius to figure out what is going on here. With all of the support that is out there, production costs are lowest in 40 years, but the cost of gas is the highest ever. We will only win this battle if we stop using gas.... I'm not planing to do so, any time soon. Therefore I'm taking it up my lower body, sucking it up and filling up my M5 with super at about $90 every time. That is my 5 cents |

Here in GA some stations charge 20 cents extra for premium (93) over regular (87).
However other stations charge 70-90 cents more for premium. In my opinion 30 cents premium is the max I will pay. If I see a station charging more than that, I don't buy the gas but instead go on the Yelp app and give them a one star review with title "Price Gouging".

Only used Shell / Exxon gas for my car..found Costco gas noticeably less power in my previous BMW's..interesting to know if any of the other retail gas stations quality is better..surprised by the premium price vs regular in Dallas having just moved from CA..big jump in price..but paying a $ less for gas still makes me smile..

I use the GasBuddy app to find cheaper gas but cannot explain the increasing $ gap between grades. Here in CA, $4 and above is the norm. It sucks.

In the US we have some of the least expensive gas in the world. I drive an M5. I didn't buy it for economy. I couldn't care less what gas costs. Not even on my radar. I do, however, stick with Top Tier rated gasoline.
