After 4 month the M5 is going........

Well I originally ordered an M3 in jan for delivery this month... And it is there at the dealers... They changed the colour and a few options I wanted on it but it looks amazing.. I ordered it in yas marina blue , but they changed it to mineral white.... The dealers give me a demo one to try and I had it all day... I have to say I was very impressed with it , it reminded my of my 1M... So after owning the M5 for only 4month I am trading it in and getting the M3... The M3 just feels right for what I need it for, it's easier to park it actually fits in parking bays and I just feel more comfortable driving it...... It's not about the options it has on it it just feels right.... The M5 is an amazing car but just too much , the luxury of the interior is just out of this world but I always feel nervous when driving it... Hope I don't get shot down for doing this change as this is an awesome forum..... It has been a very good experience having the M5.. I will be lingering in the back ground as I like to read the stuff you guys post.... So for now it's a good bye and thanks for having me

Maybe I can purchase your car for cash if it is how I want. Can you share photos please?

Why did the dealer change your colour or are you taking their demo

Like others said... 'to each his own'. The M3 is one sweet ride! I really like the looks of it and it's a BLAST to throw around a track.

For me it's just a bit too small and not enough luxury for my Daily Driver (DD) duties.

Enjoy it bud!

I can't say I blame you. I feel my M5 is over the top for most things as well. Maybe I should go look at an M3 tomorrow...

I too felt nervous when driving the M5, but you get over it. 4 months is nothing to break in that "new car, oh sh*t it is so expensive, why am I driving something like this" feeling. How many miles do you have on the M5 and what kind of hit are you going to take?

+1... I let the wife drive my M5 all day yesterday and she has the F30 3series. she said:- OMG, this feel so big, scary, expensive... she didn't really enjoy the experience at all... I am used to it now and love it. by I never truly feel at home and relaxed in it, like I did in my previous E92 M3. maybe because I feel it wants to kill me if I play too hard

I actually agree with the OP on his reasoning. Sometimes we never really know what we want until we get what we want and realize that it's not really what we want.

The size of the F10 is a detractor for someone like me, but is exactly what some people want/need too. I love the convenience of 4 doors but honestly I think an M6 would be a better fit for me sometimes. Some people also feel that the Executive-ness of the F10 M5 is really quite unnecessary for them too. Even I sometimes feel like I should be taking out business clients in my M5 to a restaurant rather than going to get some Chipotle for dinner. Due to the size of the vehicle and my lack of a family unit, if the next generation M5 gets any bigger I will not be shopping for one. I will most likely get an M6 or Lambo/McLaren instead.

Good luck to the OP, the F80 is a great car. Just wish it had some of the luxury feeling of an M5/M6 or Porsche.

OP congrats, great choice - you can't go wrong with an M3/M4. RPi, I have seen you mention the M6 a few times. Buddy, I was in the exact situation and the hit was not as bad as I originally though it would be; however my satisfaction is through the roof. My clients love the M6 and you just getting a feeling that its got that extra special. The M6 was always the one I should have gotten but the 4 door logic kept getting in the way. I swear there has not been one moment that I have wished the M5 back into my stable. To each his own, but in my world 4 doors are for SUVs now

I am thinking M6 more and more too now. I just don't need the 4 doors of the M5 as I had originally thought.
M3 is bad ass, my friend has a 335i and it is just too small. I actually don't mind the size of the M5. Most of my driving years have been SUVs so the M5 is kind of small.

Yeah buddy. I went to my local Cars and Coffee this past Sunday (yesterday) and one of my good friends was there who currently owns both an F10 M5 and an F13 M6, he brought his M6 there yesterday. He is also a member here on the forums, ICE7. I sat in his M6 for a minute and then checked out the back seating area. Although I have driven many M6's and tracked them too, the number one reason for me not ever considering one, is the price premium of them over the M5. To me, it just wasn't worth the extra ~$18,000. If the prices were closer, like the delta between the M3 and M4, I'd probably be driving an M6 right now. But now that prices of 2014 M6's are coming down for both new and used, and the fact that I crossed the 40,000 mile threshold on my M5 recently, I am considering options for the future. I still haven't decided if I will keep what I have and get an extended warranty or get rid of the M5 and get a new car. Tough decisions but I can't afford a McLaren 12C yet, which would be ideal for me.

Totally get it, 12C is special. Decisions, decisions, this hobby definitely is not easy on the wallet. Getting to drive a 991 Turbo on Monday will update you on that later. Want to see if its anything like R8GT in excitement factor.

I think when you originally got your M5 you posted that you got rid of your 1M at the time to get it. I remember saying to a buddy of mine who is a BMW enthusiast who loves the 1M, that I never would have made that trade. I would have added the M5 (if financially possible) but not replaced it. For me the 1M is one of the most desirable cars out there...a modern car that you can drive and enjoy...and suffer no depreciation in value. It has such aggressive lines. It is obviously so different than an M5, with its focus squarely on the sport rather than luxury. Like I said, a great car to own with the M5. I would love to hear how the 1M compares to the M3.

In a nut shell I should not have let the 1M go.... But the M3 reminds me of the 1M I needed 4 doors and 5 seats.... I now have that with the M3 and it just feels right to me when driving it....
