Recommended oil?

I have a 2016 M5 and I push her pretty hard performance wise and was wondering if anyone had any recommendations? Thanks

Your car is new and has BMW maintenance included.
They use rebranded Pennzoil which is produced by Shell.
If you are changing between oil change intervals just make sure it meets BMW spec requirements so you are covered for warranty purposes.

Just as above said BMW approved Synthetic. I think BMW uses Castrol these days.
More importantly don't let a quick change location (jiffy lube, etc) do the oil change.
The Oil Cooler won't completely drain, but if you let it sit and drain for an hour...yes an hour, you'll notice that you'll drain an additional quart. Most quick lubes let it drain for 10 minutes or so.

You should have dealer maintenance included. Have the dealer change it out for you. They also do top off for free.

Personally, I changed it or topped it off when the system told me to. The intervals and mileage will change based on how you drive.

My car is out of warranty, what do you guys suggest for oil changes? Should I bring it to a BMW dealership still?

I personally hate dealerships. They will undersell a service if you're covered under the maintenance plan or oversell it when you're out. Find a reputable third-party shop that has experience with the F10 M5.

That's a good question. I did some research on the Liqui Moly website and it really doesn't say. It's one of the recommended oils listed for our engines though.

I use liquimoly 5w40 since out of warranty. Took it to a local shop that deals with German and came highly recommended by other M owners.

What made you decide on the 5w40 versus the 5w30?

That's what the shop had in stock and they recommended it. Is there a difference between big 5w30 and w40?
