Any one have a sidewall problem on their M5's

Well I have 967 miles on my new beast and was headed from Houston to Fort Worth. I was enjoying the drive when just after turning off I-45 to get on US 287 near Ennis, my TPM said I had a tire issue with my driver's right tire. I checked the pressure and sure enough it was low. Since I really hit nothing, I thought it must be a slow leak. Well when I filled it up,I could hear the air coming out. I wen to a small tire dealer and they showed me the cracked sidewall. I then called BMW assist and in 90 minutes I had a flatbed taking me to Autobahn BMW in Fort Worth. Of course the service guy asked me about my tire and wheel protection. My dealer wanted $2495, so,I skipped it. I told him it would be ridiculous if this was caused by a road hazard and said look at the side wall, no marks. I aid you can see if the rim is bent, because I hit nothing.

My question is I googled Michelin side wall failures and found some for the Pilot Sport. Has anyone else had a similar tire failure and what did the dealership do?

Sounds like the dealer needs to reach out to BMW but given that you barely have 1000 miles on it, and there is no sign of damage I suspect BMW will cover it as good will..

Not sure if you had much of a choice, but going to Autobahn BMW was probably mistake. It's not the first time they've tried to screw a customer.

See epic story here from an experience from m5board

Mich. should cover the tire under their warranty for something like this. You should keep the tire and file a claim. Assuming the dealer does not take care of you.

At $2495 tire and wheel,is a ripoff. Let's see how I do! Seriously... Big Mistake?? I think other things in life are Big Mistakes, small mistake maybe. I have bought tire an wheel on half of my BMW's. I did it on my 650i with RFT's. In that case I know you could not fix those tires. These tires can get patched...except when you have defective sidewall.

Let me share my experience since is similar to yours.
Back in September 2011 I got my first F13 650i. After about 5k I saw bubble on side wall of front tire. I'm not sure it was Dunlop or Goodyear, but I visited the dealer. They denied replacement the tire so I visited the tire shop who was the rep of that tire. As soon as the guy saw the tire he said yes this is definitely factory defective parts and contacted the factory. Long story short he replaced all 4 tires for FREE because that tire was not available so he replaced all 4 with brand new Bridgestone Potenza. I believe you have to go the same way.

This is exactly happened to my sister F30 328i. It was goodyear RFT.. Dealer refused to change the tires as they presume it's driver's fault. Initially, I went to Goodyear tire rep to buy those tires since they were selling the RFT tires cheaper than dealer. They looked at the tires, and replaced the whole 4 tires. Good luck

Ok perhaps big mistake was taken out of context. I didnt meant it like you should have worn a condom that one time lol. But these tires shouldn't get patched because of their speed rating. I've heard this from several techs and owners. I've also been extremely unlucky with nails and coffee drive through a and have gotten wheels and tires replaced multiple times. Personally I think that insurance is great. Especially when you've forgotten your wallet and you didn't have to pay 500 bucks that one crucial time haha.

Correct in saying don't patch. They can be patched but it's not wise.
