My next gen M5 wish list

I will keep adding to this as I get my car in May but here are a few things. Add yours to it if you want
- thinner seats! The seats are too fat and eat into rear legroom. There is tech out there to make seats thinner and not sacrificing comfort. Plus this may allow them to shrink the overall car.
- Reduced power button / full power button. They had it in previous gen. I would like to see a more extreme version of it. Say if next gen M5 if 600hp then, in normal mode you only get 450. The button gives you the remaining 150hp. Why? Improve winter driving. AWD will help a lot too. So may not necessary.
- make full leather an easy to order option without the hoops. Better yet make it standard. 100k cars should have it standard.
- make at least 1 Brown color a standard interior option instead of individual
- reduce the damn weight of the car which it looks like they are.
- rear ent with HD inputs

Yes. More than anything remove the damn speed limiter on these cars. Please!
Can't believe I forgot about the elephant in the room.

The Charger Hellcat allows you to detune the vehicle to as low as 500 HP from the menu settings.

Conversely, if you want access to ALL 707 HP, then you must start/turn on the vehicle using the 'red key'

Sorry if this sounds like I am pooping on your thread, but I wanted to give my thoughts on these two items.

You want thinner seats, and then be able to shrink the car? Won't that just bring the leg room back to pretty much where it is now?

No! No! For the love of god, no! We already have to push too many buttons to disable all the nannies in the car. Winter driving? just start off in 2nd gear instead of 1st. I don't want anything that is remotely close to what they had in the E60 M5.

What would I like?
  • I'd like the car to actually remember the exact drive logic setting that I was previously in when I turned the car off.
  • I'd like a remote start feature integrated with the key fob and the App.
  • I would also like the M Drivers Package and other customizable options that are offered in Europe.

No offense taken. M5 seats are the fattest I have seen. They can shrink the seats and do better packaging thereby actually increase rear legroom - something seen in a number of newer cars.

I would def want M driver's package, but having a button to get the full power - why is that a bad idea? If you live in northeast or other areas with very cold winters, I dont think you need 560 or 600 hp in those conditions. I actually quite like the idea of the M power button like the on in E60. Remember they are going the way of hand gestures, so if buttons are your nemesis, fear not.

Remote start is a good one too for those who have personal garages or driveways.

I'm 100% positive if they go too much north 600, AWD will be included as standard (hopefully with optional RWD), then there is no need to reduce the power... but, do you really have issue with power of current M5? It's already north of 600... I mean I'm not living in "real winter weather" but I feel 600 HP is manageable as long as you respect and pay attention to the power of this power

I would like the car to have even more power! But the attraction of the M5 for me is that it's docile when I want it to be like that, and a beast all other times. With a baby in the car seat, I would want both the AWD and the M power button. When I am driving alone, I would not care for any of those. If that makes any sense? I love the power of the car but with a 9 month old in the back, cold temps and frequent snow - yes I would want some more options to tame the beast.

All cars come with a power button. It's that big rectangular thing in the footwell on the right.

Other things Id like to see:
1. Full leather as standard
2. AWD!
3. Wifi hotpot - this is not really M-specific. BMW's wifi hotspot offering sucks in comparison with Audi's.
4. OLED headlights

Wifi hotspot? man those things are going to rack up bills pretty fast on wireless carriers! What are OLED headlights?

I do hope that full leather is standard option, and if you want less leather for whatever reason, its a no charge stepdown option. Likely not going to happen.

I have never configured a porsche or wanted one. But someone at work picked up a 911 Turbo S. And I drove with him. Holy smokes - that thing goes like batshit. I went online to configure one and it was unbelievable the things Porsche will nickle and dime you for. That was a huge turnoff. PLus the fact the configurator was increibly complicated and cumbersome. But this is true of BMW in UK (went to BMW UK website to configure a M5 and everything is unbundled there)

So a hope for next iteration - please don't remove already included options and dont start charging for them

Better sounding exhaust
Steering more like the E39 rather than the E60/F10
Carbon Fibre Roof with sunroof!

Definitely teh new laser headlights next. Full leather is a true no brainer for a model like the M5 which combines both luxury and sports. Non leather dash is a 100% deal breaker for me.

As for the in car wifi hotspot, it's pretty dumb. I have it in my 2015 MB S class and omg, can they put a longer encryption key since you can't use your own. I just don't even bother with it. MB charges it for it tho

[edit] i really want to build my own porsche but i hate that online configuration. I stop halfway EVERYTIME. It's such a nuisance and like you said, huge turn off
