Man I love BMW and all, but all this parts sharing, commonality and production efficiency I feel may be watering down the product. This article might be a good glimpse of the future. Even though I'm all for a much lighter next generation G30 M5, I'll be disappointed if they use a reworked version of the S63tu. That would be the first in history that the same ///M engine would be transferred from one generation to the next. I might have to call it quits if they do that. We'll have to wait and see.

Hey ///M, how about actually spending some time and money and developing a brand new 3.0L Twin Turbo V12 with new energy recovering technology like they are using in the new 2014 F1 engines for use in the next generation M5 and M6??? As much as I love the S63tu, please do something different than using a base N-series engine as the starting point or worse yet re-using the last ///M engine you designed. Porsche might be calling my name in the future. Lol!

Every M5 has been based on that generation's 5 series, including parts sharing, commonality and production efficiencies. Absent this design philosophy the current and future M5s would be priced northward of $200k.....and there is virtually no viable business case for such a car.

I stopped reading after "180kg weight loss, uprated 600bhp (which means what, 700?) and option of 4 wheel drive. That was enough for me...I want it.

If the G30 is out in mid 2016 when will the next gen M5 be released?

I like the feature where it overtakes "dawdling Luddites" by itself. Sounds like an automotive first and one that appropriately comes in the form of The Ultimate Driving Machine.
