Extended vs full and piano black
So finally found my build in stock. It was extended vs full leather but I'm willing to let this go. With three kids I guess they would be scuffing up the doors anyways. It also comes with piano black. Is this just on the dash or is it carried through to the console base as well? Any thoughts in this? It looks good but I have read it scratches easily? Although if it's just the dash it's not like you are touching it all the time? Thanks

3 kids and Piano Black trim?????!?!??!??!??!?!??!??!?!?!?!?!??!?!??!?!?!
No but seriously, the 2 most important things you need to know about the Piano Black trim is that it comes pre-scratched from the factory and if you breath on it, it will scratch. It looks amazing the day the M5 is produced at the factory, every day after that it gets a scratch. I've tried almost everything I can think of to remove the scratches and it's impossible. I Opti-coated it, bought a super insanely soft cloth for polishing, used PastX, tried Brasso, etc etc, and nothing works. I'm gonna switch trims one day. Stay away from Piano Black if you value your sanity.

Carbon Fiber trim can only be orderd as a BMW Performance part. It costs over $3,000 dollars. Not worth it my opinion. I think I might replace mine with the Aluminum Trace or find a guy who can professional buff the trim back to factory shine.

ANy of the other stock trim options should be available. Try to swing a deal to get them to swap it out for you at a reasonable cost. I have the Anthracite which I really like. Not as black as the PB but also easy to maintain.

There is another member looking for PB who found a car with dark wood trim. If you like the dark wood, you should touch base and talk about a swap. Install costs shouldn't be bad and you might be able to get your dealer to agree to do it to close the deal. Here is the thread: http://f10.m5post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=738208

I guess the only other way is to try and do a custom clear-bra on the Piano Black Trim. But no one has ever tried that before.

On the web site the piano black appears to just be on the dash and doors vs the center console. I could see the console getting scratched up but I would have thought the dash and doors should be safe.

I'll have to ban any passengers, and pets, for the first couple of weeks of ownership. Just so the pleasure is all mine and I can keep it a clean and special place for a while...
