Throttle, torque and speed ?.
Hi Chaps,
I wonder if others agree with me here on this point, it may be obvious really, but thought i would point it out. We all know this car has monumental torque, and i find, i can ride that great wall of torque, in sport +, and woft along at a good old lick, with around 1/2 throttle, but sometimes i feel the car isnt as rapid as im expecting, even when i gently push further than 1/2 throttle. There is no great kick at around 5500k rpm. Now, here is my point. I feel that when i nail the throttle to the floor, say from 2nd gear onwards, the torque and power are immense, and the big kick is DEFFO ! there, and i always feel that, yes, this car is absolutely rapid. So, i feel i have to mash the loud pedal, when im wanting the full experience, which is pretty obvious, but its something i have noticed, and wondered if others have too ?, regards, SIMON. |

E60 M5 also has a too-conservative throttle mapping which requires a deep dip before it responds. I suspect it's done this way for eco reasons. I solved it on mine with a tune which changes the mapping. Another option is the sprint booster which many E60 M5 owners swear by. I had one for a while but combined with my tune it became a little too touchy.
I suspect there will be a sprint booster for F10 M5 soon enough to address this issue. |

This may not help:
My first BMW was a 320 rag top - felt like a like a king. Then i had a test drive in a 335i and shat myself...omg such power. caught the bug and soon realised (within realms of 3 series) that i had to get to the top....M3. Test drove a e93 and felt proper let down...no bottom end grunt..crap. Bought 2 new e92's within the same year and with the now understanding that i had to put my right foot through her to get some top end fun along with the more rigid feel to that of my vert, i thought it couldn't get any better... ...until i had a go in the M5. A Monster with class and quality to boot. I guess i am saying two things here really (apologies for memory lane btw) 1 - I know i will acclimatise to the M5 power very quickly (WE ALL DO...FAST YESTERDAY, SLOW TOMORROW) 2 - Yes i could get a smaller quicker/more nimble car for the same buck, but for my personal journey, i cant wait to own the power and the class/quality in one car. Lets face it...i/we can always spend out hard earn't on some tweaks...exhaust's remaps etc etc (or a new M4) Last edited by Stiggly; 09-04-2013 at 02:09 PM.. |

This reminded me of my concerns with the AMG M157TT- it has blistering speed but needs more throttle input. Tunes on that engine solved the issue by increase boost earlier on in the throttle.
I would suspect that the S63tu doesnt play boost all too early in the throttle initiation.

You are probably correct here. I bet that the throttle bodies really only open past half way, in the last part of the throttle pedal travel ?, therefore maximizing boost, and therefore torque ?. Dont get me wrong, there is still a lot of torque, with not a lot of throttle input, its just ive noticed, that if i want the mega performance, and that kick i keep banging on about, then you have to really ask for it, with full throttle. |
