The service manager stated the cost to replace both turbos ranges between $5500 - $6500. This price includes labor.

Wow, ok. That's almost not as bad as I thought. I'll post more on this later, but many extended warranty companies I have been talking to are quoting in the range between $5 - $7,000 dollars for an extended warranty up to 100,000 miles. Seems like one major thing goes wrong, i.e. Turbo Replacement ($5,00-$6,500), DCT replacement (~$9,000), Engine Replacement (~$40,000), the warranty will pretty much have paid for itself. Thanks for this info.

@Fantasm I think they did something when i had the first service but i took in the car many times for service but they never said anything about a oil change. I'm gonna call my SA and ask him about that.

I have a friend with a 545 and he has had two out of warranty services on his car that cost respectively, $3500 and $4500. His extended warranty expired at 75k miles and he started having issues at 90k. He is going to trade the car in and is at 105k now. The first one was for leaking valve cover gaskets and I think the second one was for a water pump. Normal stuff just expensive.

My hpfp went out and now the car is in for that. That's two fuel pumps in the last 1000 miles.

Is that hpfp a recall issue? Or it just happened to yours?

No, the recall is some heat protection for the coolant lines. I did have a problem with loss of coolant earlier and this may be the source. The recall happened after I had the car in for the low coolant. There is a thread on here about it. The HPFP follows a failure of the fuel tank sump pump in August. The car only has 17.5k miles.

If I remember correctly, SM stated the shafts on both turbos were worn. This caused some of the fins to start rubbing on the outer housing. The defective turbos were returned to BMW NA for further analysis.
