Track (Drag) Tires and Wheels
I have been reading about the NT05's and a few others but first I need to find a set of wheels to mount tires on that will fit the rear brakes. Would prefer a similar looking one to the 343's but it doesn't have to be since they will be changed at the house prior to driving to the track - black would be nice but can powdercoat.
Used to run MT ET Streets that hooked amazing but that was a long time ago on a much different vehicle. Anyone have suggestions for tire / wheeel combos for drag strip purposes only?

Thanks! Looking for a good wheel recommendation...ones that will clear our brakes specifically. Is there anything out there besides the OEM 19's that have been used?

The record-setting rear tires were MT 305/35/19 on 19". Some have run r888 315/30/20 on stock m5 rear wheels without problems although specs do not recommend it.... |

Currently I have Nitto NT05 305/30/20 installed on rear (343 M6) and am telling you the grip is perfect. 305 needs at least 10.5" wide rim while your 343 M5 rim is 10" wide on rear, but there are many people in this forum have installed 305 tires on 343 M5 and they claim it's fit so you should be fine...
315 R888 is another ( lets say better) option but then you need 10.5-11.5" rim

I'm currently running 305/30/20's on M5 343's and they do fit. I would end up buying new wheels to mount a set of track tires on (chnage at the house before driving to the track) so I might just look for a set of M6 343's to do that with the NT05's. Are yours NT05's or NT05R's - and is there a difference? If you come across any wheels, shoot me a PM please.

The problem with the 20" drag radial is the tire is a bit too tall. It creates some minor (yet livable) issues with shift points. The 19" is a bit shorter and closer to stock height. Also the 19" has a bit more sidewall to help with launches. If you are going to buy a dedicated track set up, go with 19". Most of us are running an OEM 19" rim which is pretty expensive. You could do some research and find an aftermarket 19" that fits. I think a few have tried with not much luck. My OEM 19s are very heavy compared to my HRE 20s.

Agree with CB, I think the Mickey Thompson 19" is the best Drag Radial option we have.
R888s are not a drag radial. The have a softer compound, but they have a stiffer side wall and are more intended for road racing. They are a good alternative for daily street use with maximum grip.

Many thanks for all of the replies. WhenI used to race back in the early 2000's the MT ET Street was my go to. On that particular vehicle my track set up was a 28" on a 15" wheel and it worked awesome with plenty of sidewall to squish. I'll definitely be going back to the MT now because of this thread.
Next up - wheels. I know most run the 19" OEM but are there any other options in 19" that have worked...that you guys have found? Thanks again!!

Assuming you are going with the MT 305/35x19 on that wheel, you'll be 11mm (0.4") closer to the suspension on the inside. Assuming you have the clearance for that, you'll have to take into account the tire is a bit taller and will flex more when cornering. I'd check and double check the clearance.

Charlie Brown, are those MT ET Street 305/30/20's on a standard 20 X 10" M5 wheel?? I like that if so!
