I just think it is impossible to get a super sticky tire that lasts more than 5k miles. R888R are sticky but will last 5-8k miles and are bad in rain.

That's true, but having the pleasure of extra grip from R888R's IMO far out weighs the fact they don't last very long, they are so much fun, and they still grip well in the wet - just not good through standing water (you have been warned)

When they do become as useless as all the other tires is in the cold, im talking anywhere below 50f, but all of them are useless at that point anyway.

MPSS4 seem great but IMO only for the winter months, lots of rain and cold, otherwise im looking for Nitto NT05R next, wonder if someone will beat me to it and try them out !!

Yes, and the R888R hook better, but really want to know about the Nitto NT05R, someone must have tried these?

There are many owners that have tried NT05R and MT ET SS. My take is the MT is the best to hook up on the strip. Horrible in rain and bad around turns. NT05R not as good hooking as MT but still very good. A little better in the rain and will last longer than the MT. I think NT05R is best street used drag tire. MT is the best drag tire.

Agreed, we're looking for best daily driver, M/T is not on that list, but more importantly, whats the best at hooking up NT05R or R888R

I suspect not many have tried the NT05R since they only have one size 315/35/20 which in my case will rub for sure as suspension is lowered....I tried the rear 315/30/20 R888 and there was occasional rubbing on turns and rear seat weight.....very nice grip tires but be ready to change them at every oil change

The best rear size on my lowered M5 is 305/30/20 with no rubbing issues.....I'm going to try the NT05's for the street next.....

Just to confirm im looking for straight line grip NOT to go round a track, M/T ET's i know would be best BUT not available in my size 315/30/20

(Just put my all season tires on this morning ready for winter, so feeling like ive lost a turbo, or a couple of cylinders as the grip is rubbish
My opinion from the track- NT01s and R888s on track go with NT01 if you have the option. The grip is pretty great. I? had PS4 on my GT3. NT01 is still better imo. Unless you can run slicks, then I? like the Hoosier slicks on track, but you have to manage them better, they can oil up easy.

Can you explain the hook up differences you found between the R888 and the NT01 ?

so what you decided Nick??

I am moving back into an M5 again (next week) and will be in the same boat.

Looking at NT05 or NT555r. I want something that can grip & cope with Scottish weather / water on the roads

Bought a new M5 in 2013 and it came with MPSS which were very very good. I guess MPS4's are better? Still pretty rubbish in the wet and cold though. My m8 had a 335i running stage 2 and meth putting out over 500bhp with winter tyres and the grip was crazy good. Need to go find out what he was running.

I agree in Aberdeenshire we need real grippy tyres. My M5 running MPSS tried to kill me on several occasions!! Don't really car how long they last as long as they grip.

NT555r look like a really good all round weather tyre, not sure if anyone has tried them?

Having driven on the R888R for a bit now I must say I am very impressed. It is WAAAYY better than the R888 (non-R). Not sure how long it will last, but other than increased road noise its a winner!

I'm using nt05 right now and with 750hp they're useless. Good maybe from 4th gear and up.

This will be my first raining season here in So cal on r888r....we'll see. The r888r seems to have less tread pattern than the r888, but I drive pretty civilized in the wet.

In the dry, r888r will hook at top of 2nd onward, @~700wtq
