Haha! Now I'm confused too! I'm checking with RPi now. Lol!

RealOEM shows a primary cat in the downpipe and no specification for a secondary anywhere. They call that section in the midpipe a "silencer".

Tuners?

I just checked with RPi. Turns out those things in the center pipe are in fact the stock resonators. So I guess the stock exhaust system has no cats at all. I officially sit corrected as I type this. LOL!

Time for me to eat humble pie! Nom nom nom nom!

Guys,

I went home for lunch today during my lunch break and I took a minute and played around with the exhaust. I haven't started the M5 since last night, so it has been at least 12 hours since I started it. The Cold Start was WAY louder than what we experienced at the RPi shop yesterday. It was so loud it shook the house! It reminded me of the Cold Start on the E60 M5 with the RPi GT Exhaust AND the RPi Headers!!! It was that loud! I rev'd it up a few times after the engine warmed up for a couple of minutes and the cracks were much louder than I thought!

The only thing I can really compare it to so that people will understand without getting to hear it for themselves, is that the cracks of the exhaust sound like the tail end of a cowboy whip breaking the sound barrier.

Listen to this video with the sound turned up. This is VERY close to what the cracks with the muffler deletes sound like! The exhaust cracks are un-freakin-believably loud!! The cracking sound is MUCH MUCH sharper like the cracking of a cowboy whip in this video than any crack you've heard before with any exhaust system including the stock system.

I can't wait for more people to get to hear it in real life!

I have a question for those of you that may have heard both cars in action.

My last car was the current model V8 M3 with full Akra exhaust. I LOVED that exhaust

My current ride is the new M6, and honestly, I just can't get my head around the exhaust... compared to the M3 Akra it's just so ****.

So my question is... for those that have played around with different exhausts, what's the closest in sound to the M3 with Akrapovic?

What time? I have guests visiting from the bay area, but I might be able to convince them to wake up really early. Would love to hear it in person as this was my plan with the f10.

I'll be arriving a tiny bit later to the party for C&C Irvine. I'm planning on getting there between 6:30am and 7am. If you get there before me, trust me, you will hear me coming. Lol!

Dude, you are in luck! I have heard the Akropovic system for the E92 M3 before. It's tame compared to the RPi GTM exhaust for the E92 M3 and definitely tame compared to the setup I have running on my F10 M5 now. If you want LOUD on your M6, then go with my setup. The second most aggressive to my setup is the Eisenmman Race, but you don't get any horsepower gain.

I too was having difficultly with the lack of sound from the F10 M5, even when I had the RPi GT system installed, it just wasn't doing it for me. For the last 5 months that I have owned the F10 M5, I have not been in love with the F10 M5. Yeah sure the power was great and everything, but there was no roar to back up the performance. With my RPi GT Muffler Deleted setup, holy moly, I'm getting the roar and more than I expected! It doesn't scream like the V10, but instead has a VERY exotic roar that is difficult to put into words. The best part that I have already said before is the cracks that my setup produces. The F10 M5 is now INSANELY fun to drive around both in town and on the highway. I've already figured out how to get the exhaust to crack almost every time when downshifting from 3rd to 2nd or from 2nd to 1st gear. There is literally nothing like it!

So to answer your question though, if you want a sound that will closely match the M3's Akropovic note, then go with the Eisenmann Race, you won't be disappointed.

Hmm....what about electrical cut outs so you can at least warm up the car in a semi civil matter? Keep the mufflers, but install electrical cutouts in the mid section.

Yeah I dunno how that will sound. Could be interesting. One thing is for certain though with cutouts, you won't get the cracks from the exhaust, which is one of the best parts. But yeah that Cold Start was WAY WAY LOUDER than I thought! LOL!

I guess I'm gonna have some neighbors hating me again.

I'm sorry, but let's be real here...no one has proven gains from any catback aftermarket exhaust. In my opinion, the RPI claim of 20-30HP is completely unsubstantiated. Dave, do you recall the desert races?

Now that you've pulled your filters, we should run again. Regardless those filters don't justify 20-30 horses.

As far as LOUD is concerned though, the GTM is unparalleled

Yeah but you had the filters out. Lol! I've been offered a free dyno session down here in SD in a couple of weeks. I guess I'll get to see how much power this puppy is making.

Ha I updated my post about the filters, cause I knew that would be the excuse - we should run again.

Now that you've straight piped it, I'm very curious to see if there are some gains. Based on that article about turbo engine, I think there could be something there. I'm all for the real world comparo/race over dynos.
