Driver Assistance Package: Would you do it again?

I'm getting close to finally putting in my ED order. I'm conflicted on the Driver Assistance Package and am wondering how useful people find it. Now that many of you have had your cars for a few months (including some in the U.S.), if you had to do it over again, would you get Drivers Assistance?

If you could maybe break it down, that would be helpful. Here is what I have read and understand so far:
  • Lane Departure Warning: Nice to have, may vibrate the wheel well before you would be concerned. Probably the most useful of the features.
  • Active Blind Spot Detection: Hard to see and overly conservative. Would prefer this info be in the dash or HUD. Routinely ignored by drivers?
  • Cameras: Very cool, but wouldn't miss them if they weren't there. Maybe keep you from getting a bit of curb rash when parking. (I would find that useful, btw).
  • Speed Limit Display: Works well, but really isn't necessary.

One other consideration is that I understand parts of the DAP interfere with certain radar detectors, like the V1.

Thoughts?

I find the cameras very useful in my 550i. I cannot comment on the other features because I don't have them, but I did order my M5 with the driver assistance package.

I'd get it again just for the cameras. I will admit the cameras on the front of the car have been fairly useless for me, but the overhead view I use a lot.

Speed limit info is surprisingly very very cool - not sure why, but I really enjoy this feature.

When backing into a parking space, overhead view is useful.

All other features are totally useless and not worth the cash. I would not buy the DA package again.

For me, I use the blind spot detection and speed limit information the most out of all the features. I would get it again...was a fairly inexpensive addition in the grand scheme of things...$1900 is a one month payment

I find the lane departure warning to be too much---- it vibrates when Im in high speed turns at times. I have turned it off.

The blind spot feature is ok---- hard to see the little warnings with my tinted windows LOL. I like the benz version much better.

I love the cameras... I had a friend code the warnings out so I can use them and see the entire screen right away.

On long trips, and driving in congested metropolitan areas like around NYC, I have found all the DA features useful. Blind spot detector has had no impact on my new V1. Very happy I got this package. BTW -- speed limit display works well with the HUD.

Just wanted to add my take on the speed limit display. During my ED, I did not bother changing into the metric system and kept everything in miles. Although the speed limits posted were in KPH, the system (in HUD) automatically made the conversion to MPH -- way kewwwwwl!

I voted I have it and I would get it again. Having said that, I love all the gingerbread and technology and get most options just for that reason.

Lane Departure warning: Can be annoying - it's not perfect in its implementation and can occasionally give what I consider to be "false" warnings - such as cresting small hills on 2 lane roads and in curves on 2 lane roads. Still kind of neat and if it saves me just once from an accident because I look away or am distracted then, IMO, it will have been worth it.

Blind Spot Detection: Neat but if you know how to properly adjust your outside rear view mirrors you don't have any blind spots anyway.

How to properly adjust outside rear view mirrors

Cameras: I would definitely miss this. IMO, BMW has one of the best implementations of exterior camera systems of any car manufacturer.

Speed Limit Info: I like this a lot more than I thought I would. How often to you look down at your speed and then wonder what the speed limit is where you are driving because you didn't notice the last speed limit sign or two? I like having the speed limit info in the HUD.

For me:
Top view camera - priceless, worth all the money for the package.
Lane Departure - have it on another BMW as well - great
Speed limit - cool
Blind spot - ok

I dont use the lane departure much, I shut it off, but blind spot detection has saved me more than a few times, so I am definatly glad I have it.

As someone who purposely did not order it, I can say I don't miss it. I have not had any trouble staying in my lane, exceeding the speed limit or parking.
