Take a look at the damage from my minor deer hit http://f10.m5post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=898023 Somewhat similar, but on the driver's side. I hate to say it, but that repair bill came to just over $20k. Of course, that included $2k+ for a new night vision camera and a lot of time reprogramming the camera and new LED headlight. All the control modules for the headlight had to be replaced because they were damaged by the washer fluid leaking. The hood had only a minor dent and was carefully bent back, so no replacement there. Hopefully your side quarter panel wasn't shoved into the passenger door.

What I need.. and if anyone can help with this... is a full listing of the (expensive) parts that I will be needing for the repair. They will be basing their computation on their estimates to repair (parts + labor). But I'm certain they have never seen a 2014 M5 in their body shop. I need to make sure that I can at least provide a listing of the expensive parts that I know will be necessary for the repair. Any help would be appreciated!!!
Part, part number, cost for the most expensive parts I"m going to need for the full repair. I want them to be able to verify the part cost because I think that is where they will undervalue everything. Not to mention their labor costs will probably not be the labor costs I'll end up paying... For example, you guys mentioned the new LED Headlight which is $$3250. New bumper $750 painted. $400 Fender Repair. $600 Hood Repair. New Oil Cooler Unknown$ Each Sensor that needs replacing Unknown$..... If I can give them a list of parts like that, it might help get a more fair payout. |

I've been coming to Mexico for many years now; driving down here is relatively new and obviously isn't going to continue... my accident wasn't caused because of being in Mexico, it could have happened anywhere with the same conditions.

I hope you do the right thing and report the damage to the CA DMV, it's the law. Any damage to your car over $750 has to be reported. A legit body shop will do so as well and this will show up on your carfax report, in which your insurance company will discover. State Farm and geico gets your initial mileage and accident history through carfax in addition to police reports. There's no way to dodge around the system unless you pay the body shop cash, but for something that can go beyond 15k, I doubt a highly reputable shop is willing to take the risk. I know it sucks, but do the right thing and don't be selfish. The second-hand owner deserves to know and you need to realize the diminished value of your car.

Your LED headlamp is part # 63117352486 Google it they are not $3250 they are between $1300 and $1600. I quote new primed OEM panels from BMW that does not include removing the old panel, installing the new panel and finishing and blending into existing paint. I was rear-ended in the summer. Rear bumper, x2 mufflers, 1 backup sensor and trunk lid (not fenders, tail lamps). $26k CAD so figure $20K USD finished with labour. 3 stage paint isn't a quick fix if done properly. Hope this helps. To Op:
I hope your car is repaired quickly. It is only a car and it can be fixed. I agree that this accident should show up on the Carfax report. The second owner should know about the damage. |

First of all, my condolences. I have had similar front in damage on my M3, and I've posted about it on these forums in the past. Here is the link for reference: http://www.m3post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=924172
In my case, the total damage was about $14k, this did not include another $2700 reimbursed for the clear bra. The bad news is that it's not enough to total the car, and you will suffer diminished value because of this accident, the good news is that it's repairable, and there doesn't seem to be any frame damage. The aluminum hood is unrepairable, it will need to be replaced, along with the fenders, bumpers, headlights, and any unseen damage. They will need to respray all the replaced parts, including blending other parts of the car, like the doors and rocker panels. Most likely you will be suspension damage, and need to replace parts. I highly recommend getting the car aligned a 2nd time by a reputable BMW dealership when everything is done to confirm the suspension is within spec. Other things I've learned through my own process is check the panel gaps, make sure they look right, have the body shop use a gap measuring tool to validate everything in spec. Also check that the automatic headlamps gets properly recoded so that it swivels left and right. Good luck. |

Is this post for real? None of us can examine your car.....little things add up. It's impossible to tell what parts need replacing.
You feel confident bringing a car to a body shop that has never worked on one of these and expect they are going to take your word on what needs to be replace, the pricing, and the labor? That isn't how it works. You have a $100K car....you pay to play.

OP: I don't see why you want to pay out of pocket for this. Bodyshops will give an initial estimate, but cost will continue to escalate once things are taken apart. Insurance labor rates vs. out of pocket differs. The bodyshop I took my car to for a door ding repair charges $120/hr labor vs. $70/hr AAA rate. This was a non-bmw certified body shop and I simply wanted a dime sized ding repaired and painted correctly. For something like yours, I would only want the most expensive and best BMW certified body shop, especially for our M5's.

Is anyone else having issues quoting posts?
Anyway, @Loft23 "OP: I don't see why you want to pay out of pocket for this." Because I would think that the hit he would take on resale would be larger and perhaps excessive if there's an accident on record. Their also may be something else, but it's not like we have all the facts here. This is yet another reason I will not buy used anymore. If this were a lease and he found someone to fix it out of pocket without reporting it, it could be CPO'd.

Hey, Loft23 and bronch, go back to post #15. OP changed his mind and reported the accident to his Mexican insurance company and they sent an adjuster out Christmas night to start the claim process. They will cut him a check for the damage and he will get it repaired in the US.

There is no question of doing the right thing or the wrong thing. I have already done the right thing and navigated through this crappy situation and all I will lose is a lot of money. Money isn't important. I earn and save and now it's all 1's and 0's... I'm not paycheck to paycheck or I wouldn't be driving a new M5. I've already got the car being estimated in Playas de Tijuana by Qualitas and then I've arranged the tow truck to take me over the border, I've got AAA to tow my car to the body shop, and I've already selected a very highly rated body shop that will do top quality work. If someone was hurt, this would be a different situation and some of these comments might make sense.. but I really think some of the responders didn't take the time to read the thread. |

I did read the thread and agree it's a horrible situation. My apologies if I offended you, that really wasn't my intent.

Funny that you mention that. There were three shops that were recommended for repairing this. Pensky Body Shop, Phil Thearle, and Chapparone
Initial estimate was just under 11k. Some more photos that will show much more detail. |

That was the last recommendation but I wrote it down (the name) incorrectly and couldn't find it online. Have you heard good things about Chapparone Auto Body & Painting. They seem really decent (above and beyond) and the reviews are fantastic.
