Brake Dust

Just wanted to know what anybody has done about the brake dust that seem to accumulate over the wheels. I seem to always clean the wheels everyday. It seems that the original brake pads in the M5 generate so much dust. I looked at another BMW forum and some suggestions were to replaced the OEM brake pads with brands that produce very little dust such as Axxis or Akebono. Just wanted to hear anybody's thoughts on this.

Try swissvax autobahn wheel wax. It was developed to address the same issue on the Veyron.

Or look into Stoptech street sport pads.
Don't get Hawk HPS pads for low dust. They suck with braking power.

I would go with the Carbo-Tech pads. They make low dust pads that are equal in stopping power to stock. Of course StopTech makes an excellent pad but is pricier.

Does anyone know the status of the Carbon Ceramic Brakes for the M5? I'll go into production in early April and wondering if this will be an option for me. Thanks!!!

Use the "search this forum" on the right to search for Stoptech and any of those venders will be able to help you out.

New Pads

Just ordered my low dust brake pads from Carbotech today. I will let you guys know how these work out for the M cars. I have put them on several different types of BMW's and and my wife's GC SRTV8 which has OEM Brembos all around. They have worked well for me it the past.

I ordered the 1521 pads for the front only. According to Carbotech, these are the exactly the same pads as the OEM pads but low dust (very different compound). As an update, switched out the pads over the weekend and put about 75 miles on the them - little to no dust. They have a minor squeak at the very end of the brake cycle which is normal until you break them in. According to my sales vendor, this is due to the contamination of the OEM brake dust with the compound of the new ones which will go away in two to four weeks, depending on the mileage that is accumulated. Happy so far.

I will try and take a pic of the front to back wheel comparison for anyone that is interested in the brake dust difference.

thanks for the update.

If it proves to be better than oem, I would switch too. More so for having no squeaks at all over less dust.

Yes, but it came and went. I could go a week without hearing it then, it would be back.

I'm VERY interested in these. Would love to see a picture if you have one available. Where did you buy them? Is Carbotech the only ceramic/low dust option for the F10? I've been searching for weeks and cannot find anything else.

I emailed stoptech. They do not make any for the F10, and wouldn't commit to making them.

I will try to take some pix and upload them today. I was getting the BEL STI-R and Laser Blinder installed for the past 3 days. Just got my car back yesterday. I am still pretty happy with the brakes; the dust on the wheels is only about 15% of the OEM.

Just get a set of aftermarket wheels in a matte graphite finish. They don;t show brake dust. Not a cheap solution . . .
