Also, here;s the default answer to this question that keeps popping up:

*No one* regrets getting the Comp Pack. But plenty of people that didnt get it, end up regretting it.

I'm biased, but yes. The lowered stance, better steering, wheel option, sports exhaust, etc is cheaper than doing a bunch of mods that cost more and not under warranty.

I scratch my head when people claim to have driven both back to back and not immediately notice how sloppy the car is without competition package. Yes, it's 100% worth it.

Yes it's worth it. Huge difference in the suspension and steering. Power is also underrated. The exhaust is lame and that would be the last thing to look forward to in my opinion. It's faster, handles better, and there's a lot more feedback in the steering.

Test drive both and decide for yourself. Was a no brainer decision for me once I played with CP car.

Possibly, but having never driven a CP and only 800miles since the first service, I was very impressed by the capability of the standard '16 car.

Even when driven at 6-7/10ths at most - and leaving the best part of a mile behind normal traffic on a nice/twisty B-road, it felt like I was up to them in seconds - the front end grip & precision is staggering.

Granted if I was tracking it (& I have no intention of that - I prefer driving other people's cars on track!), I would want the CP.

Std M5 IS amazing. CP is just better in the opinion of most.

I took the standard for a test drive, and then the CP. The CP won hands down for what I was looking for in an M5. I wasn't planning on putting 10k+ into mods after and this made it much easier in terms of getting a better feeling/performing car.

As said before, no one has ever said that they wished they didn't get the CP (after having gotten it)

Yeah, I have the same thinking. CP M5 are lowered slightly and handling improved so I am just going by pass all the suspension mods.

But I'm still temped to get the titanium akrapovic (or the M version if available in Taiwan ) pipes once I get mine.

Standard vs CP

I think most agree that CP is superior to the standard M5. I however believe that given what an M5 costs and the reasons most people buy one, it should not be necessary to give BMW yet more money to make the car sit, handle, steer and sound better. I may be wrong here, but I do not believe that the CP is so radical that many M5 buyers would prefer the standard car. My reasoning is that CP simply gives the buyer more of what they're buying the M5 for in the first place. CP is not particularly competition or track oriented....is not hard-core or lunatic fringe....it just adds a few more spoonfuls of M magic to an already great package. Making CP a chargeable option is a bit like Starbucks charging for milk and sugar or McDonalds charging for Ketchup.............yes I know, but that's my point.....some things just don't feel right.

Start with the best...and end up with the best. I am glad for the comp pack because this is a big, heavy car. Highly recommend it.

I picked up my 2016 M5 last week. I did not opt for CP and have no regrets. The car is wonderful to drive. Ended up choosing the M5 over an S6 and the M5 is so much sportier, faster, tighter, better handling, better sounding and fun.

I did drive CP cars and understand why some like it but, in my case, I did not need any extra on top of what my M5 offers as a daily driving car that I can also have fun with.
