pbir is definitely the way to go here. I would be interested in seeing 1/4 mile and lap around the full circuit. There are plenty of track days going on when this could be arranged.
That would be the true tell re: how good a Dinan 550 car can be (and at what cost). |

All I can say is I LOVE the M5!!! My car is not bad, very quick but the responsiveness of the M5 transmission is insane...
Buying an M5 this week... Thank you Tylerstar for letting me take your car for a spin! I now know what I am missing out on.. |

Judging by the OP's satisfaction of the F10 M5, I'm guessing the M5 won, not only in a head to head race, but it also won in every other department. Lol!
Also, to the OP Monte Carlo Blue is the WAY to go! Such a sick color! Congrats bro!

The 550 is right there with the M5 until about 100mph then the M5 takes over.
Since I already ordered the bigger turbos for the 550 I am going to go ahead with the install, and Ill run it against the M5 once I get it.. I still think the 550 with the Dinan upgrades is a hell of a car, specially for $40k less than the M5... But after driving the M5 that is the way to go if your budget can do it.. |

What is total cost of all mods? I can't believe it's still $40k less than an M5.

This was my next question. Doesn't Dinan charge something like $3 grand just for a tune? I can't even imagine the cost of upgraded turbos. Besides doesn't a fully loaded 550i cost north of $75K?

Total Cost of Dinan Stage 4 stuff according to your numbers: $17,256. If were talking brand new 550i with Dinan Stage 4 mods compared to a brand new stock F10 M5 with almost all options: Brand new 550i Dinan Stage 4: ~$96206 Brand new stock F10 M5: ~$109,000 Price difference: $12,794 Now if we are talking used to used, here's the breakdown according to your numbers: Used 550i (with about $1,800 miles) Dinan Stage 4: ~$71,256 Used F10 M5 (with about similar miles): ~$95,000 Price difference: $23,744 Also, after looking around on Autotrader for a minute just now, it sounds like you got a fantastic deal on your 550i. Seems that the median price for a used 2012 BMW 550i is a lot higher than the deal that you got, so I imagine that the average consumer would not be able to get a similar 550i with only 1,800 miles for only $54K. http://www.autotrader.com/cars-for-s...rch=true&Log=0 The only thing I wonder about now is this: If I was going to spend $17,256 on aftermarket mods, would I rather spend that on an F10 M5 or a 550i? I haven't even come close to spending $17,256 dollars in mods yet on my F10 M5 and I've already dyno'd mine somewhere around 630hp to the crank. I imagine that if we didn't spend any of that $17,256 dollars on wheels, or diffusers, or splitters, and only on performance mods for the F10 M5, we'd be able to get it up to at least 800hp. IND is working on upgraded turbos right now and I bet that their kit will come in under $17K. So in summation, through analysis and factual information, it simply makes no sense to spend $17K on a 550i Dinan Stage 4 when that kind of money could be spent making an F10 M5 go ludicrous speed. Especially considering that no more than 6 months from now, we'll be able to find used F10 M5's on the market going for somewhere in the 70-80K range. Sounds like you enjoyed the M5 though and now understand what is really is. Good to hear bro. I really do love that Monte Carlo Blue though, man I still wish I had picked that color! Congrats once again!
