Some vbox Acceleration data

The temps cooled off here in the DC Metro area and I took the M5 out this morning on the private road to see what it could do again. This time I decided to let the DCT do its thing and just put the car in D3 and MDM and stomped on the gas at about 40mph. I also was carrying half a tank of gas (and my 240+lbs). The results of run #1:

60-70mph: .78
70-80mph: .94
80-90mph: .98
90-100mph: 1.15
100-110mph: 1.37
110-120mph: 1.54
120-130mph: 1.81

60-130mph: 8.57s (it was on a 2.03% decline)

I was psyched to see that time (it came up as a 8.6s on the actual screen)! So I decided since I got that one in the bag, let me try my hand at some standing start acceleration times. I turned back around and just left it in D3 and MDM (no playing with Launch control or tire pressure or cooling down). The results (with 1ft roll-out) of run #2:

0-60: 3.67s
0-100: 7.70s
0-120: 10.70s
0-130: 12.49s
60-130: 8.82s
1/4m: 11.69 @ 125.56mph (GPS trap, if I average the last 66' of the run like at a drag strip: 124.75mph)

I am just shocked at how fast this car is in virtually stock form (just Supersprint Race mufflers and K&N air filters).

Tom what was the slope on that 1/4 mile run -2% as well , because that trap speed is ridiculous ! I'd be interested to see the slope graph on the 60-130 run as well to verify it was starting in 2nd that improved your time 60-70 mph not a sudden drop in slope . On a 2 % avg slope run the start could have been -4% then the gone to flat for an avg of -2 for instance .

Ok I tried attaching some screenshots. One thing to note is that the software doesn't allow me to show (or maybe there is a way but I am not aware of it) the 1 foot roll-out like the screen does on unit. So I run a custom 1,321' report and then run another custom report for 1' and then subtract that out from the data to come up with the 1 foot roll-out numbers (I show both in the screenshot). At the track I find my ETs are better on the timeslips than on the the pbox because the timing lights allow more than a 1 ft roll-out (maybe because of the bigger wheels on most modern high performance cars to allow for clearance over massive front rotors).

The slope was 2.57% decline over the entire 1/4 mile. So it would likely be slower at most 1/4 mile tracks but maybe I would make up some time with some VHT track prep.

Ok the slope explains the abnormally high trap , but I'm still very impressed by the 0-60 time on the street, the MDM on this car does an epic job of putting the power down .

Thanks for posting all your data. I wish more people did.

Agreed, actual roll out assuming you didn't deep stage may be closer to 1.4' for the F10's front tires.

Performance Tools is archaic at best.

It's impossible to draw any conclusions from the performance box 1/4 mile numbers on a down slope because there isn't an adequate database.

Have you tested DSC off in the 40-80mph range to see if any wheel spin generated on the 2-3 net slows you down?

What's your best trap at the actual strip? Do you have 60' and DA for your run with highest trap?

Nice numbers
I have it checked for "Height" but for some reason it is only displaying the black line showing the height but not the scale on the left. At the 60mph mark it is at 179.57' and by the 130mph mark it was down to 153.88'. The run took 1,264.16' so the decline was as I said before 2.03% (25.687'/1,264.16").

On the standing start, there was a decline of 34' over the entire 1/4 mile.

Incredible numbers, Tom - thanks for posting. 60 - 130 in the 8s stock is remarkable.

The best time and trap was an 11.835 @ 120.87mph (with a 1.981 60') in 2K'+ DA on a track that isn't known for its prep or trap speeds (75-80 Dragway).

http://www.dragtimes.com/BMW-M5-Timeslip-25676.html

I had a better 60' time on my second run (1.940), but only ran 11.903 @ 120.67mph.

I have never completely turned DSC completely off. I didn't really feel any hesitation in power.

Btw I plugged the weather this morning into the drag times DA calculator and it was about -220' DA. I would have thought it was even more favorable. I can't wait for the November track rental at MIR!

Damn that thing is moving!! Great data, 60-130 time is very impressive! That's about as fast as a tune only GTR!

Thanks! But it is funny that you say that. On the same stretch of road I did 8.45s 60-130mph when my '09 GT-R had a Cobb 93 octane tune, mid pipe and HKS drop-in filters. The temps that morning were also about 15 degrees cooler than my run this morning.

I was amazed as well. After looking at the 60-130mph lists on 6speedonline and dragtimes, this seems to be the fastest run by a 4 door sedan with stock tune.

The fastest time for a stock tune F10 by a huge margin.

I found several other threads for F10's reporting bests of 9.3.

Nice work.
