Dyno settings

Hey guys. Trying to get a baseline dyno for my 2014 M5. I’ve seen some posts about the F10s not liking when the rear wheels spin too fast and the fronts aren’t moving. Are there specific settings we need to be in to run on a dyno? It is an AWD dyno jet but I don’t think they have rolling road. Thanks!

You don't have to worry about the front as they are rear wheel drive. Just set it up there, turn traction fully off (hold down the button) and do the pull in 5th gear as that's our 1:1.

Nice to know, I'm having mine on a dyno next week to check my tune.

So no diagnostic tool "Dyno mode" like you need on the E46 M3 SMG's then.

Nice nice, post them results!

Correct, just make sure traction is completely off (hold down the button for like 5-10 seconds).

Got it on the dyno today. Ran it in 5th and only got to 5900 rpm before it hit the speed limiter. Made 551 rwhp 541 rwtq at 5900 rpm. Ran it in 4th and made 535 rwhp 520 rwtq at 6500. Bone stock

I will.

I have had issues with my tune, the power comes in waves and is not easy to control.
Almost like old school turbo lag with a huge ketchup effect.
I cant run with the DSC off, MDM mode is useless as the power is so abrupt it's the same as in normal DSC mode.

Putting on the dyno to see what it's like and try to fix it, if not I'm going back to stock comp pack tune with cold start delete.

Took a bit longer than expected, but the results are in.

My car, on a dynopack, (unknown gear) produced 637 WHP and an insane 925nm/682ft/lbs of torque.
Problem is that torque is a peak at 3000rpm, then it drops off to 850nm/626ft/lbs.
My tuner has yet to be able to remove the low end torque peak as the car does not appear to react much to changes, today they will try to put back the old stock map and check that.

We'll see what happens today, I may end up going back to stock as that low end torque peak makes the car very unpredictable and a handful to drive.

Yep. That much low end torque is also damaging to the engine and other drivetrain components. Drive it easy or like you said, go back to stock until rectified.

Yes, this was a bit over the top.

I just picked up the car, we dialed it back to 575Whp to get rid of the torque peak, it's now around 750nm/554ft.lbs, with a more linear power curve as well.

Dyno pulls were done in 4th but on a calibrated load dyno to the gear ratio.

Compared to the stock figures by KadoF10's 4th gear pull, I'm up 50hp and 40nm/30ft.lbs over stock.

Going home the car felt much better, no sudden bursts of power, but a nice even pull all the way.
I'm going to drive it over the weekend just to see what it's like, definitely down on power, but not as crazy and uncontrollable as before.

I suggest using a properly calibrated steady-state dyno rather than the rest. They are out there. Non-steady state dyno pulls are wild estimates for absolute values. I wouldn't trust them even for relative/comparative tuning measures. Nothing like being able to hold the rpm steady and getting a proper reading as long as things are calibrated.
