Conti their tire supplier. They told me anything with a non-Conti tire is what the car came with from the factory but once those tires go, it's Conti. The funny part is that Michelin is right up the street and right next to the Marriott they put you up in. They told me they went to bid for tire suppliers and Conti won. They said occasionally the Michelin proving ground is booked and Michelin has to host events at the BMW Center. They have to change all the tires on any cars they use to Michelin and take down all the Conti signs etc. for the day and then change it all back when the event it over. Ha.

For those who have done both, would you have liked to have done the M school before picking up your ED (when you may not have been as familiar with the model) or after having put some miles on the car?
In 2012 I did ED, M School, the Nürburgring, and PCD for my M6 Coupe, and also attended the Monaco GP and French Open in a 650i. Based upon my experience, I would do M School first which will help familiarize you with the M5 before you drive it in Germany. As for the Nürburgring, I rented a Z4 at the track instead of using my new car. If you can do it, there is nothing cooler, or more fun, in my opinion, than driving to Monaco for the race weekend. Also, you could combine that with a trip to Paris, and driving through the French countryside. Finally, I would suggest including PCD, to get further track time and to refamiliarize yourself with your car since it will be about 8-10 weeks from ED to PCD.

We loved our trip there! It was great and they really make sure you have a great time. Can't wait to do it again.

Two quick questions:

1. Is there a portion of the course where they let you try out a variety of cars, or is it purely M3, M5, M6? Not that that's a bad thing. Just curious.

2. Is there a dinner at the PC on the second day? They say not to fly out before 6, so that leads me to believe they finish pretty early on day 2.

Thanks!

1) No it's only M3, M5 and M6

2) If we use terminology as Arrival Day (day before M School), Day 1 and Day 2. Then you have dinner with the instructors at the PC on the end of Day 1. If it is a small class like mine then they do dinner at the Marriott instead because the caterers have a minimum heads requirement at the PC. There is no dinner on day 2, the class finishes at 4pm on day 2 and you go home.

Thanks. The M School you have to pay for, but you can do a half day session free with Performance center delivery.

The wait list for m School is often several months.

I found this part of the review very interesting. Visually, the M6 seats look just as comfortable as the M5's. I've sat in the M6 seats a couple of times, but have yet to spend some serious time in them. Glad to hear that the M5 seats are more comfortable. Also can you comment on the use of the adjustable side bolsters on the M6 verses non-adjustability of the M5's?
I personally prefer the more supportive M6 seats and love that I can adjust the bolsters to hug me in place . I find them incredibly comfortable too on long trips , and I'm 6/1 200 lbs . Of course my other car is a tracked out Z4M with Recaros so my comfort meter may be off lol.

M5 has adjustable bolsters too and the overall grip level is higher because the upper bolsters are bigger than the M6. I know a guy who recently switched back from an M6GC to an M5 because he didn't like the seats!

I prefer the M6 seat bc it is narrower especially the lower part . To each their own . I think they are both great seats , but the M6 interior is wayyyy better and it's faster .

I hate the M6 seats. Lol! The headrest is no where near as pillowy as the M5's. The side bolsters do nothing for me on the M6, but the new 2014 seats with their side bolsters make a big difference. There's also more shoulder bolster support for the M5 seats. I wish the U.S. market got the M6 seats on UK and German spec M6's. Old topic, but I thought I'd chime in. . Also I still hate the M6 seats.

This 2 day M school costs $3,000 apparently? With the plane ticket and food etc it's at least 3.5k. That's the cost of 10 track days in NJ in a year, which I'd say significantly more "track time" than what you'll get there. Am I missing anything here? Is it more about exclusivity of the event than tracking the car?

It is somewhat about exclusivity. They do give you a lot of swag with the school. Hats, Helmets, Jackets, key chains, yada yada yada.

I've done 3 track events with my M5 and I will say that the with the 2-Day M School I learned more, drove harder, drove faster, and had much more fun than in the times I tracked my personal M5. I loved the ///M School, and I wish I could do it every year. I thought that the great thing about the school, is the amount of worrying that is off your shoulders when you are on the track. It's their cars and their track, so if you crash, you get to walk away and not worry about anything. Great feeling if you ask me. Plus the instructors there really teach you how to drive harder and harder, while at HPDE's the instructors act as nanny's not letting you push your limits, which is understandable since it is their life in the car with you too.

At the ///M School they teach you how to drift, at track days, you'll probably get kicked off the track for drifting. Especially if their are other novice cars on the track with you.

The ///M School experience is like no other. Oh and the food is really awesome too!

You get 15% off with the BMW CCA discount.

I think the program is great value. Remember it includes accommodation, free gifts including a BMW helmet, meals, tires (I'm sure you use a full set over the 2 days) and most important comprehensive insurance with no copay. You could total an M5 and wouldn't pay a dime. That doesn't apply at other programs. Also the tuition is top notch. I really learned to drive my car and that was priceless.
