Hi all,
I got the akra exhaust installed but it doesnt seem to be loud enough for me. Any tips on how to make it louder? I heard downpipes is one of them but other than that anything else?

Yep as msrmng said you need dp's - and I would start with that as it makes the car considerably louder.
I have heard from a very well known installer that Akra+DP's is the best sound setup they have heard. I would go with AMS or SuperSprint catted 300cell. Unless you really want catless.

Best option is to sell it and buy something else. Catless down pipes will help too but there are issues with that - CEL error, ECU issues at higher speeds. Even worse your car will fail emissions tests. Not acceptable to me.

Stand on the sidewalk and hand someone your keys. Have them do a WOT run 0-100. You will enjoy it. Remember there is a tradeoff for making an exhaust louder... Having said all of that the next "step" would be the catted DPs.

In my opinion if the Akra is not loud enough for you then sell it and get something else rather than dump more money into DPs only to be dissapointed again.
You should get a good return on your AKRA and an Eisenmann or Meisterschaft system sounds like what you are going for in terms of volume. Good luck with whichever route you choose! |

I finally got to listen to a akra on an F10 last week, albeit only from the outside.
It's definitely much louder than the CP sports exhaust at idle and louder under part throttle & probably just a quiet under trailing throttle. I also listed to the CP exhaust being revved from the outside with car stationary (as recommended by @dhirm5) - it's louder than I expected & does sound quite 'dirty' (a bit like a Jag XF-R exhaust), although still not quite as good as the RS6/7 videos. The odd thing is that it the sound dies almost instantly when you release the throttle pedal unlike the akra. The akra does have a higher pitched sound that the CP exhaust from the outside - to my ears a better quality sound, but does remove the characterful 'hammering' that the CP exhaust produces on part throttle under load from low revs. You need to be driving really hard to make the CP exhaust sound great inside the car & I thought the M Perf. would be a good choice to provide a more emotive soundtrack during less hard use whilst keeping everything 'BMW' - not so sure now & don't want to go the non-'OEM' route (DPs, etc.). I thought the CP exhaust was supposed be somewhere in between the std & M Perf exhaust, but not so convinced now that the M Perf. without DPs, etc. will just sound different to rather than better than the CP exhaust, hence, a bit of a non-upgrade from inside the car at least. I don't want to spend £7K just for the pleasure of others Last edited by Dionysus; 02-02-2014 at 07:06 PM.. |

If you are set on keeping the Akrapovic and looking for more volume a catted down pipe will certainly get you there.

Hell, I'm just getting them back for waking me up on saturdays when they decide to mow their yards at 8am.
