To put a bow on my mods. I just got off the phone with Ron and he is getting the prices to overnight it to the dealership. I am getting those put on ASAP!

You will probably see a mid-range gain of about 15-17whp with those. Not a big difference, but at least you will not have to deal with a CEL or stinky smell.

The Pcar I drove last weekend was laughably easy to get a 7s 0-100 using launch control. Last edited by wrsbmw; 08-04-2014 at 10:42 AM.. |

That should help me with your exhaust system advantage. Maybe it will help with the Dinan stuff as well because Steve Dinan has them on his car and I assume it was the beneficiary of most of their testing. This way when you put your BMS back on, it will be more apples to apples but I still have some cats and no straight pipe.

Yes, the Noelle are Boysen's which are the OEM DP but they don't have he 600 cell cat in them, it's been removed and the 400 cell cat at the back is moved to the front.
The AMS have a 300 cell cat of a different manufacture than what is in the Boysen. They told me it's a good one but I don't know how it compares. There have been some issues in the past with CEL and catted AMS although some users don't report them for a while. There are NO CEL issues with the Noelle because they are OEM cats and work with the OEM oxygen sensors. This is what I have learned from the board and from talking to the various vendors and end users. |

Not sure you can.
Not that I am aware of. Quite a few people have them though. I know ColdList had them and Steve Dinan has them, Spinny also has them. |

Link me to the other thread. Brian's exhaust doesnt really give him any advantage. They maybe add 5-7hp and are made for extra sound. The outcome of your race was definitely not expected to a lot of us who know the companies and how parts work. BMS is just as conservative as Dinan, but they don't have as much overhead and don't spend the money to get their parts CARB'd. Shame you have to pay so much money for little or no gains.

Downpipes are simple pieces of bent metal tubing (especially in the case of catless). There is no real difference between manufacturers.
Any gains you see (or don't see) are from having higher flowing cats or no cats (no restriction) and possible lighter weight. Cats are there for exhaust gas cleanliness for the environment. There isn't magic involved with downpipes or most of the exhaust system. You normally pay more or less based on marketing hype, brand name, and forum posts.

It is here but I think you have read it by now since you are referring to the "race".

I am getting the same kinds of numbers under the exact same conditions in the exact same location and using the same driving methodology as before I added the mods. I got slightly better numbers before the mods out on a very straight and fairly level road out in West Texas with about 20 degree cooler temperature. Keeping in mind here there was a CEL that occurred after the initial install of the mods along with a limp mode failure which cleared. Everyone said take it in so I did and it turned out that the airbox needed a different bottom for the Dinan system to work. So Dinan paid for that and the labor to put it on. Between getting the mods put on initially and that fix, I went out to the place I normally do my runs and was able to get in two quarter mile and a 0-150. It was a little wet where I like to do most of the runs and so I didn't do more than just the two I did. The temperature was around 78-85, it was mid day but we had rain early so it wasn't a really hot day like all the others. It wasn't any cooler than the runs in West Texas. Here are those two runs with an average trap speed of 122.5 mph. I estimated that I gained about 60-70 hp at the crank using these trap speeds. However, subsequent runs after the airbox fix are back to the sub 120mph average trap speed which suggests I have somehow lost the hp gains. Last edited by wrsbmw; 08-05-2014 at 10:25 AM.. |

Now the runs from before the tune
Here are the best runs from before the tune in the same place at the same time of day. I am also including the very first runs I made and there are two of them. Most of the times are 12.2-12.6 and 118-120 trap speeds. The average for these three is about 118.1 mph.

Here are the two best runs out in West Texas
One is best ET the other is best trap and they are at substantially higher altitude without the tune. The car may have increased boost due to altitude and ended up performing better than at sea level, if I understand how that is supposed to work. These were made using mash and go with MDM. The average trap speed here is 120.77mph.

Now here are runs from the last two days
These were made on the way back from the sunday run and the car had already been driven fairly hard. These were made with MDM so I just did mash and go. The average trap speed here is 118.9mph.

Now here are yesterdays runs made in the normal place outside Austin
I did these all shifting myself using the paddles with DSC off. I thought these runs all went fairly well and they are all fairly consistent but the results aren't really any different than without the tune. The average trap speed here is 118.7mph.
The standouts are those two with the hole in the airbox. So to me, it looks like the DTronics isn't working since the airbox fix. Last edited by wrsbmw; 08-05-2014 at 10:28 AM.. |
