Satin Black or Gunmetal wheels on AW?!?

Need some suggestions here. Trying to decide what to do with the wheels on my '13 AW M5. The 2 options I have is to keep the stock 20's and powder coat them, but then the question is powder coat to Gunmetal or Satin Black? or Should I go ahead with the HRE P40's, but then what color Black or Gunmetal? FYI - I will be taking out the chrome on the grill and sides and replace it with IND black side grills and center grills and will have the roof wrapped in carbonfiber. Your suggestions!?

Stock 20's

HRE P40's that I am looking at

Gunmetal

Satin black

I went with brushed gunmetal on mine, I've got a set of ADV10 Deep concaves on order.....I like to see some wheel detail and I think you lose that, especially with a gloss black wheel. But to each his own!

satin black will def bring out the contrast of the car. I say 'eye catching' as passerby will have their heads turn twice.

I would go for the tinted clear. I think that is fantastic. Gunmetal is still too dark and takes away from the stunning design of these wheels.

Depends if your goal is driveability or cosmetics. From a driveability perspective you would not be able to drive the car as hard with such thin tire walls.

As a performance driver I always choose driveability over style.

I see that you like the look of a mesh design. We could build you a set of our SM7 Deep Concave wheels in any finish you'd like! Check out a few examples I think you might like!

The massive rims craze for these cars has got to stop.

I would not go for the P40's personally. They are just such an old design and I think that the stock 20" wheels look light years ahead better than the P40's. I personally, have been thinking about either keeping my stock 20"'s or go for a 20" HRE P44SC. The P44SC are some of the lightest wheels HRE makes and they are a much newer design that the P40's. Also, if I did keep my stock 20" I think that I am going to powdercoat them Silver instead of keeping the stock brushed look. I want the wheels to stand out more against the chassis, especially since I am ordering Sapphire Black Metallic for exterior color.

Interesting. I would be curious to see how they look in silver.

Agree with you on the P40. I like the P47SC, but I prefer the stock BMW rims. The small difference in weight is not worth the $7k cost of upgrade. A $7k performance investment gives better returns elsewhere.

Well, I too, was thinking the P40 style to be too plain...until I saw this picture and this awesome deal from Tirerack yesterday. $1100 for P40S for 20" as a closed out sale. I couldn't resist but ordered them . 4 wheels plus shipping for $4500 is not bad at all. Just checked the website, Tirerack only has P40 left for the $1100 deal. Anyone who is interested, act quickly. Few than 3 sets left.

Speaking of tire rack - for what its worth, I've purchased three sets of winter wheels mounted on plain alloys in the past 8 years and each time have noticed scuffs/chips on the wheels on delivery. Who's to blame them or their shipper (they pick their shipper so should still be their neck) is always a finger pointing contest. No big deal for me since it was a 100$ rim I was going to use for winter in the northeast anyway.. but just sayin' - would be quite sucky if you were to purchase a sexy wheelset only to see that on delivery. Personally wouldn't go with them for an expensive wheel for that reason.

Before anyone asks - no I didnt contact their customer service when I noticed the problem (yes lazy, and like i said, no big deal for me cuz they were beater wheels anyway). Maybe if you contact them they make things right (haha).

Well, hopefully the damage was from mounting the tires to your wheels.

I didn't order tires with the rims (going to use the stock tires since the size fits the rims perfectly).

Fingers crossed. I will post my experience this Friday.

that is a fair point - each time it was one of their mounted/balanced winter tire sets.

i'll have my fingers crossed for you too - definitely dont want to jinx your delivery - but make sure you roshambo those bastards (urbandictionary.com) if there are any problems with your order.

For the Alpine White I'd go with Charcoal or Brush Tinted clear on the P40SC or P40S.

Just got the HRE wheels from tire rack. No damage and well packaged

Everything wheel is in the original HRE box.

HRE P40 is a beautiful wheel. However, I don't know if I would personally put it in my M5. Maybe a porsche, or an M3 (like the above pictures). I would do ADV.1 or a different series HRE wheel. Deep concave or something with a step lip for that size car. Just my .02, can't wait to see what you do with it, good luck!
