No spare wheel or run flats? WHAT?

Hi Guys,

Just discovered that the M5 doesn't use run flat tires and doesn't seem to have an option for a spare wheel...WTF?

Am I missing something? What do you guys do on long road trips or when driving through desolate places and have a blow-out?

Can a spare wheel (even if a thin one) be fitted to an M5? Or can run-flat tires be used?

Thanks

I found a little kit in my trunk that can be used to fill a flat tire.. I think that's all they gave us though.

Yes the kit is tire sealant and a pump to fill the tire if not fully FUBARed

Check your tires condition before long trips to reduce risk of blowout.

And this is not unprecedented. The E39 M5 had the same setup (no run flats, no spare tire - just the "M Mobility Kit").

E92 M3 is the same. I just constant check for nails and glass in the tire. Especially when gassing up. You will be amazed at the stuff that gets caught up in the soft compound tire.

From what I know, none of the newer generation M cars come with run-flat or spare tires? My 08 M3 didn't, nor did frd's 06 M coupe and 03 M3.

Is it wrong of me to assume that you're new to M cars? I have an air compressor in my trunk and also a kit to patch up a hole, not the sealant.

Does anyone know if an e60 M5 (or maybe even a previous gen M6) wheel will fit? They can be had fairly cheap online.

Good question! I happen to like the stock 19" rims from both the E60 and F10, they are fairly similar. Did the E60 have identical brakes to the F10? It's certainly a tight fit brake clearance wise on the F10. Maybe one of the shops who have both cars in for work could do a quick test for us?

No they won't. New calipers on the F10 are too big. I had M6 wheels I tried to test fit.

All you can do is throw a spare in the trunk and use soft weekend bags.

Yes, it seems like that is the consensus. I'm just looking for cheap spare options.

Maybe this would fit? I'd keep this in the trunk on long trips for emergency use if it would clear the brakes.

These people have them for the E60 M5 - probably something coming for F10 also though it's not listed yet.
