Wife backed into the M

Yup - she backed out of the garage in a car that has a freaking back up camera right into my car parked on the side of the house. Damage to the rear quarter panel - none to the door. It is pretty badly dented with paint chipped away. Assuming the panel needs to get replaced completely.

Taking it to Classic BMW collision center here in plano TX. They say 2-3 weeks. UGH. Thoughts on the repair? Do they fix the dent buff and paint or do they replace the panel?

Many thanks.

Looks like it got a little bit of the door too. I'm not an expert, but 2-3 weeks seems like a long time to possibly replace a fender and paint a door.

The door is safe; i double checked - just a filthy car. It is minor but I am so pissed. Of course she feels horrible.

If you can live with it without fixing do that. Believe me it's annoying process. They want to tear down many parts to maximize the time to charge the insurance as $160 per hour.

UGH - just can't live with it. Have to fix it; money is not an issue (don't mean to sound crass) but I'll spend to fix this.

That's a bummer, but it's very minor and can easily be repaired.

Did you try BMW of Dallas? Classic BMW is backed up, this should take no more than a week. I had a much worse situation and they had everything repaired in one week. It wasn't a dealer though.

LOL.. I know money is not an issue for most of the people in this forum. My concern was 2-3 weeks without car and then there is possibility if you hear rattle noise after they finish their job. Hopefully is not gonna happen just wanted to give you heads-up. Talk to them seriously before they start their job.

ok first off, relax. There is no need to replace a 1/4 panel.

If it was bad enough, yes, but body shops do not (or should not) go around just cutting off 1/4 panels because they want to make more money. And i say the term "cut" because that panel is structurally welded to the car.

The real key here is to find a good body shop who can fix it, a good body man will have it like new. I can promise you that. If you have any questions, pm me.

I guess a positive here... is that the car is black (it seems)? so they won't have to blend into the door. They should just repair, and repaint the 1/4. Unless they are money hungry bastards.

there should NOT be any sort of rattles after this repair. Nothing is being removed, cut etc.

And 2-3 weeks is ridiculous to repair and paint a panel, find an independent. Alot of bmw dealerships send out their work anyway..

Very minor; frustrating for sure but a very simple repair. It's a car, luckily not a child or pet.

13 - I have not checked BMW of Dallas; what local shop did you use? Does anyone have any recommendations? Thank you all for the "soothing" words

I recommend trade secret auto in Plano. Most dealers use them for repairs and they service a lot of high end dealers and vehicles. Very professional shop.

Classic and Dallas don't do in house body work. It's outsourced.

Thank you; I'll give them a call tomorrow. They are probably on State Farms preferred list!

I believe so since I had State Farm.

State Farm says estimates are $1,400 - seems low but I'll take it as a positive sign. Taking it to the Classic BMW collision center on Monday. Thank you all for your feedback.

Dropped the car off at the local BMW dealer body shop - I know the service guy since 2008 and he is a straight up guy. Got me in short notice. Definitely will need to cut the quarter panel and order a new part to weld/rivet in - frame damage. This sucks so BAD!

It's too bad they couldn't use painless dent repair (realize it's chipped) but to fix the metal and then repair as needed. Better to keep the panel original.

Did u not ready anything i said? Why are they cutting off a structural part for something that can be repaired?

Your "straight up guy" is milking the insurance.

Thank you Trevor; I'll go back to these guys and see if I can take it to the shop that was recommended.
