Comfort Access Trunk Issue
Is anybody experiencing problems with Comfort Access opening the trunk? My car is really finicky about when it wants to do it. 9 times out of 10 I will walk up to the trunk, do the dance, look like an idiot, and it will refuse to open. I have to use the keyfob at that point. It happens regardless of lock state, engine state, etc.
My outgoing 550xi worked whenever I did it. I figured I would pose the question before I head to the dealer.

I had the same difficulty when trying to use mine. I think that you need to use your foot in a distinct and deliberate motion under a certain spot under the bumper. At least this is what my very good friend and BMW Service Advisor told me. I think it'll just take some getting used to.

Sorry, couldn't resist. I needed a little humor while I wait for my car.

It took me a couple of times to figure it out until I saw another members post here.
Basically you will need to stand in the middle of the back of the car (You'll be centered with the license plate). Pretend you are kicking a soccer ball. Kick under the car (medium speed) once, pull your foot back then kick once again. The trunk should open every time. Hope this helps |

I was never able to get this to work on my M5. I also had major issues with the voice recognition. It the 2013 electronics are not as robust as on the 2012 550i.

The comfort access trunk I've had great luck getting to work. I guess you can say the car definitely responds to putting my foot into it I guess while it's parked I can practice talking to it. |

Don't go from side to side with your foot. The motion has to be in and out. Refer to your owners manual ; )

So your daughter can get it right consistently 100% of the time? That is a good sign if true. Last year I eventually got the hang of it on 550i.

Do all F10 M5 have this option of moving your foot (or as now I have learned it to be more of "kicking your foot")?
I see some of the 550 guys have it too..is it part of some package or a stand alone option?

My car seems a lot more sensitive than my 550 was. The other night in the garage I kicked swiftly underneath, heard some mechanical noises (like it was going to open) but it never did.
I think I might just have the dealer take a look. They owe me a hood adjustment regardless.

I hold my foot under the car for less than a second then withdraw. Think of it like trying to lock your door outside the car by touching the handle. The locking sensor fires after touching and holding with your finger less than a second. You're just using your foot to touch the air underneath.

To these instructions I'll add the tip that your foot should be aligned with the right side of the (US) license plate.

I have always read about this but have never once tried it. I think I'll go out n try it on my 535 just for kix lol. Wanna see if I get it done first attempt. I've never really needed it except maybe if I remembered it I might have tried some time when approaching with a bunch of bags or something........

There's definitely something wrong with my car. It could be the key or perhaps there is something wrong with the sensor. Why? Not only does my trunk normally refuse to open, but it's also refusing to close on occasion.
I have two buttons in my trunk: close and close/lock. If I push close, it closes. If I push close/lock, 90% of the time it won't close. On my 550, this used to happen when I was standing away from the trunk and somebody else tried to close it using that button. I guess it's a safety measure if you're not nearby with the key. The behavior is the same, except for the fact that I'm standing BEHIND THE CAR. I think I'm going to let the dealer explain this to me. Perhaps the battery in the key is dying? Odd for being so new, but I also realized that the car won't unlock from the same distances my 550 would.

K well I just went outside and did all kinds of dances with my 535i. Keys in hands, keys in pocket, keys in sweater vs. pants pocket. fot side to side, foot paused underneath. foot touching and foot not. I'm convinced this car doesn't have this feature. It can't be that difficult to do. Not sure why it wouldn't. It's an F10 and has the comfort doors/trunk. Ah well, we're surviving ok without it up to now.
