Moving on from M5 to RS6 or AMG E63 estate
Ok so it is time to move on purely for practical reasons as i now have 2 young children and my m5 is not big enough any more when considering the amount of load i need to move such as bikes etc
Im currently only considering an RS6 or E C63 Amg estates (this model is 2wd in the uk) So this is my dilemma which is where i need everyones help please. I should start by saying that I love everything about the RS6 - everything apart from the price! Ill be buying second hand but as a cash buyer and im quite particular about the spec I want on both cars. Basically on the second hand market i would need to pay anything from £50-60k to get a decent RS6 from 2015 however I can get an equivalent AMG E63 estate (2015) for anything from £30k-£37k. At this price point it is very hard to ignore the AMG in its estates form. It appears that the AMG has suffered hard with depreciation compared to the RS6 which has held its value well I get that in many respects, the AMG is in fact inferior to the M5 but at the end of the day its an estate which is what my main priority is now. As I say, I do prefer everything about the RS6 but there is a big price difference so my question to you is what would you go for? Id really appreciate any thoughts from people that have owned either of these cars and how they even compared to the f10 m5 which I have loved! Thanks guys |

I bought a new RS6 about 2 years ago and can confirm its a fantastic car. Mapped it to around 700bhp with milltek, awesome. Kept it for around 8 months. Soooooo boring lol. It does everything great but it just feels dead. The M5 feels alive and tries to kill you at very opportunity, way more fun and driver involved.
RS is a far nicer place to be than the M5. M5 feel old in comparison. RS interior is lovely, nice and quiet and ride is smooth. But guess what, I am back in an M5 (after trying a few different things) and loving it. Cars are weird. Never tried a Merc

Probably not what you are considering but Alfa Romeo Stelvio Quadrifoglio looks like an amazing SUV. I took a Giulia Quadrifoglio on a test drive and it was sensational. It was more a competitor to an M3 then M5 hence I didn't consider at the time also it was a wee bit too expensive in the used market.
Probably it will be the same for Stelvio since it was launched fairly recently but if what they are saying is true that it drives like Giulia then it must be the best handling SUV out there. Of course there is this minor issue of AR reliability which I hear they are working to improve very hard but I can't imagine it to be anywhere close to Germans. |
