Front License Plate
I'm curious if anyone is mounting a front license plate on their new M5? I live in a state that has a two plate law (front and back) but the M5 doesn't have a front plate bracket installed (it's in the trunk where it belongs) and I would have to drill two holes in the front bumper to mount it anyway (which is absurd). My CA tells me it's just a moving violation and I can't get ticketed for not having the front plate unless they pull me over for something else first. Thoughts?

I will be having the same problem with the M5. I currently have no front plate on my M coupe and have not had any issues with the Polizi. I am thinking a gomingo option or something similar. I told my CA specifically when I ordered that the front plate bracket is not to be attached.

I use a Skene front plate bracket. I orginally had it on my GTR, M3 and now use it on the M5. You still have to drill but it is on the underside of the bumper where you can't see the holes. Not that it matters because of that UGLY YELLOW NY PLATE ugh.... Anyways, here's there link http://skenedesign.com/FPBracket/index.shtml
Here are some pics with some different angles of the plate holder Last edited by s4awd; 09-19-2012 at 01:12 PM.. |

I was thinking more like this. I like your idea though. I think grinding down the plate may be in order

Great, thanks for all the suggestions. I'll research the links and see which option is best for me. Although I'd prefer to have no front plate at all

On the tow hook option, just my personal opinion but I do not like the offset location of the set-up. If you're going to have a front plate I'd put it in the center either with the standard mount or the product mentioned by s4awd.

The skenedesign one is a good option I like. Now if only the local dealer would contact me back so I can find out what type of plate they are going to give me.

Hi James,
Yes, our Rho-plate kit for "BMW Z4 (E89) 2009-2012" will also fit on the New M5. You can place the order on our website, http://www.rhoplate.com/Products-BMW-Z4.html Regards, Calvin Yeung www.rhoplate.com

don't put a front plate, the ticket isn't a moving violation. I live in NJ and haven't had a front plate on any car i've owned in over 15 years.

You know that you will get pulled over without a front plate... Nice looking ride - even with the front plate |

If you really want to put the plates, use 3M double sided tape.
I used to live in MA for 6 years I didnt have front plates, every time I get pulled over I blame it on the dealer for not installing them and get to leave with a warning. Not a big deal with cops. Keep the plates in the car just in case. |

I've mounted mine with double sided tape. The faster I go, the harder it sticks. I use it on all my cars. I hate drilling new paint.
3 demerit points for missing front plate here. |

I've always been given warnings but the sinking feeling of getting pulled over, the waiting, excuses etc made me put on the plate. Just not worth it.

Clearly I care about drilling holes in any bumper of any of my cars!
I am trying to explore options and if you aren't going to be constructive in your criticism then keep it to yourself.

I'll just pay the ticket - no chance I drill the bumper. That being said I haven't run a front plate in 10 years on my M3, RRS, or C63 and havent been pulled over.
