I'm going to vote that it is one of the worst video editing jobs in history.

At 32 we can see the grill style, the front concept plate, etc...

Definitely not the same car in my opinion.

According to the new "Visit to the M Studio" on M3Post (see: http://f80.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=841012), the engineers they spoke with confirmed that the new engine would be turbocharged and have six cylinders, though they would not comment on how many turbochargers or whether the engine would be inline or V. As much as I'd love for the next M3/4 to rock a twin-turbo V8, BMW would never cannibalize their upmarket M cars that way. Too bad too, because that's just about the only thing that could make me want to trade my current M3 in for a new one. HUD and a weight reduction are both tempting, but not enough to trade off the glorious S65 for a turbo 6.

Sorry man, you're way off. Not the same car. They will not put that heavy engine in that car. Secondly it's been confirmed its a inline 6 turbo. 415 HP and 392 Torque.

Haha. Wait until you drive this torque monster. The S65 will become a quaint and fond memory

I'm sure I'd enjoy a bout in the M5, but I don't think I'd want to own one. Driving a Subaru BRZ showed me how much fun a light car can be even if it's relatively down on power, and after that experience I decided I probably didn't want to own anything heavier than the M3 I have now, at least not while I'm interested in going to the track and have access to lots of twisty back rods. Funly enough, broad torque curves don't matter to me much because when I'm just cruising casually, I don't need lots of torque, and when I want to have some real fun, I'll be keeping revs high where there's plenty of torque available, not to mention a symphony under the hood. That said, I can see the benefit of the S63Tu over the S85 in the M5 since very few M5s will be tracked even once, never mind regularly, so in that car it makes sense to fit an engine whose performance characteristics are especially suited for the types of use you'd find on public roads, which I imagine is why so many former E60 M5 owners here don't miss that S85 too much. But I don't think it will be quite the same with the M3, at least among owners who track -- though the weight savings might help sway them.

In any case, I'm not too worried about it since I expect to keep my M3 for many years to come. The only other cars I'd even consider owning at the moment are the BRZ (if for some reason I couldn't afford to keep the M3 anymore or stopped tracking and wanted something where more of its potential could be enjoyed on the road), a Porsche GT3 (too expensive for me at the moment), and maybe a C7 Vette Z06 depending on how that turns out. Obviously those are all very different cars, but at this point in my life my primary focus is on "smiles per mile", and that can be delivered in many ways. Other things like creature comforts are secondary.

Ha, you say this now. I have too many friends that sweared how great the S85 engine was until they bought an S63tu engine and fell in love with the sheer insanity of torque. For the next M3/M4 the extra 100ft/lbs of torque combined with at least a 300lbs lighter chassis is going to be just as prodigous as the S63tu's 502ft/lbs of torque. Also if you ever hear my F10 M5 in real life, you will forget all about the symphony underneath the hood of an E92 M3. I'm sure with a proper exhaust setup the F80/82 ///M car will have a very good sound to it. The E92 M3 will go down as a legend in car history no doubt, but the next M3/M4 will have an even greater legendary status. I know this to be true when I used to be the biggest fan of that high revving V10 but now I don't long for it anymore.

Completely agree on weight. The M4 will be lighter than the E9x.

In dont think the guys who haven't driven the f10 m5 really know how small and nimble this car really feels. I feel like I am in a maxed out, super luxury 3 series as in size and weight because its no nimble. I had the e93 vert before this f10 m5 (with my biggest blunder yet in between, the Maserati gts vert for 6 months) and I surely can say that the torque and insanity that this f10 m5 has allows me to never look back at the e93 again. I loved that e93 but this f10 is a whole 'nother world. I will by the m4 vert. My wife and I will share the f10 m5 and m4 and we will be happy for quite some time.... A very long time.

No, I meant drive it on the track! The torque is very beneficial there as well. Acceleration for passing on straights is stunning.

Hear what? The fake engine noise that's playing through the speakers?

The grill gives it away. It's clearly an M6 grill in the second pic.

I was discouraged reading about this in the magazines when the F10 M5 was introduced but after actually owning it, it's not a big deal. The car is too insulated to hear the factory exhaust, but if you want aftermarket then the "fake" exhaust won't even be noticeable.

That is no M4. It is M6. M4 gets 6 cylinders, not 8.

Fair enough, but you're also basing your comparison on an E93 M3, in which case the M5 only adds about 300 pounds to your baseline. Even that's a fair amount of additional weight on a track, but I would be comparing to the E92, where the weight difference is closer to 700 lbs. Plus there's the fact that not only are things like tires and brakes significantly more expensive on the M5 than the M3, but the extra weight means you go through them much faster, which is yet another reason I don't see it as a good solution for me while I'm interested in tracking.

Out of curiosity though, is your impression of the F10 M5 feeling like a loaded 3 Series based on track time or strictly road driving?
