m5 issues and maintanince?
So I recently found out I can get a 2006-2008 m5 for under 25k and have been seriously considering it. My question is that is it wise to have this car as a daily driver, or is the maintenance cost too much as I've heard from others. Also what are the known issues with these cars and things to look out for when purchasing. Any feedback and advice is well appreciated. Thanks gents!

There is no way you can have an E60 as DD. High maintainence, poor gas mileage and perhaps the smallest gas tank on the face of the earth. Wonderful car but not for a DD. Get an E39 instead.

I still have my 06 with 60k miles on it. It is a blast to drive and the V10 is just awesome. However a new clutch and SMG pump will cost you a bundle.

I owed an E60 M5 for 4 years. I still miss the V10 and the brutal SMG. It could knock your fillings out.
However be prepared for at least 5k in maintenance a year beyond tires and brakes. Gas mileage is horrible. I averaged 18L /100km or 13MPG. It can go down to less than 10MPG in spirited driving. I didn't mind spending money on gas but stopping all the time gets old quick. I'd take that kind of gas mileage again for a V10 or V12 but please put a bigger tank than 55l.

I owned a 2006 E60 M5 SMG put 60K miles on it DD, zero issues just oil changes and spark plugs...that was my experience but of course any M with age and mileage could be expensive to mantain...
2002 E39 M5 most expensive car to mantain that I have ever owned... My current M car 2012 E92 M3 zero issues, just oil changes though it is one of my toy cars, only 17K miles in 4 1/2 years...

I just switched from an e60 m5 that I had for over 4 years...I really miss the car BUT I'm smart enough to know now that it was almost just a moment away from disaster. If you can get an 08+ with low mileage I think you could be OK, but it's truly a gamble. Don't get an 06' - 07' that's for sure!!
