HP=2*π*N*T... Horsepower is a derivative of Torque at a given engine speed... So all I care about is the torque!

You mean massive body roll, a steering system that is not connected to the front wheels, and the engine note played through the speaker system?!?!?!?!

I can't wait to tune this thing.
It's going to be in-fucking-credible.

Duh, winning.

I wonder if the M5 will use the same criss-cross exhaust setup as the X5/X6 M models, which makes that awesome V8 sound like a Mini Cooper.

This is not an M3, it is an M5, and an M5 was always about POWER. It was always about supercar power in a sedan.

The saving grace?

Torque.

It's very possible that even with ONLY 560 bhp the torque will be enough to drop the 0-60 to 3.7, 3.8 sec's......

That's a pretty good improvement over the E60's 4.3-4.4 second times....
if its in the 3s as you say then i dont care if the hp is in the 4s. then id buy. but i think unfortunately you are going to be wrong. a 4.4 is what im predicting. i mean look what the did with the 535. old one 5.3 new one 6? rediculous

I wasn't saying I am sad that It has a low HP, some guy said that the F10M will have 150+ lbf more torque than the e60... so i just meant that HP or torque, the F10 M5 will do much better than the e60

P.S.
Everyone seems annoyed at BMW's estimates for the M5, why? It is only an estimate after all and the true figure won't be known until it's independently confirmed, which I might add I reckon it will be low 4s bare minimum. Anyhow this car isn't about the first 60mph, it's all about the figures after this speed.
footie the 100,000 euros is whats my problem, thats over £87K in pound notes not for me at that price.

Dont forget that it has turbos, it will be easily tunable. Also, you can add catless downpipes, FMIC, and meth.

I still really want one

Ok, if you have been in a 2011 550 that has only 400hp you will know that 560hp in that car is going to be ridiculous to say the least. Plus after you chip it and do a couple mods come on. The new 550 seems as if it could actually have with my x6m just from the weight difference. But who knows let's not speculate nor underestimate BMW ///M. Especially if you drive a BMW ///M of any kind you will know that the 2011 M5 can and will be a beast!

2003 E39 M5=396 hp (ok 400)
2006 E60 M5=507 hp
2012 F10 M5=560 hp

So, the E60 M5 had over 100 hp more than the E39 M5, yet the F10 will get less than 60 more hp? I don't really like this trend...as Mercedes, Audi, and Caddy, Lexus are racketing up their hp and handling, BMW's M Division led by a marketing guy seem to have lost focus...I hope not...because if Lexus drops the 4.8 V10 from the LFA into the GS for the GS-F, not only will it make about the same hp, but it WILL sound better than what the M5 will possibly be presenting

No. The fastest production sedan is the Panamera Turbo. Beat the V around the ring by 3 seconds.

So, once rolling, this M5 will fly.
Pana TT with Sport Chrono actually gets to 100 in 3.9 seconds. Crazy fast for a car it's size with "only" 500 hp.

I do find it interesting that the majority of this thread involves comparisons between the CTS V and the M5. Sure the V is a good bang for the buck, highly tuneable and puts down some amazing times, but shouldn't the M5 be looking more at the Porsche? Imo, this class is about the E63/RS6/Pana TT while the V competes more in the M3/C63/ISF range.

WTF

Didnt BMW say "did you think we would give it less power than the x5/x6 M?"
so they gave it 5hp extra? Disappointment here..
seems moving to turbos and new design just added too much weight to the car to break the 4 second mark. very dissapointing. only current M3 leads the competition.

The only way the new GS-F will "destroy" the M5 and E63, is accelerating out of control towards an M5 and an E63, given the Lexus' unique stuck throttle feature.

Actually, in terms of size, the CTS is right on par with the A6, E, 5ser, which makes the CTS-V pretty much a rival for the M5.

First of all, Lexus was proven to not have been at fault in the "stuck throttle" issues.

Second, the GS F hasn't even been confirmed and there is zero chance that it will get the LF A engine if it does happen.

Good luck trying to find out where I said anything about the rumoured GS-F having the LF-A engine.

Where did I say that, mate? Please, show me.

As a multiple 5er owner, I am growing increasingly disappointed in everything BMW offers. They seem be focused on being a sales leader instead of building the ultimate driving machine and offering vehicles of superior quality. Sorry, but I have too many friends who have had nothing but apathy from BMW USA after the purchase of $65-100K vehicles. Sad. The Kool Aid is leaving a bitter taste and it may be time to leave the camp.
