Turbos muffle the sound of the engine. M knew this so they put in this retarded solution. Just google "Active Sound Design."

If it can't be turned off or if I have to turn it off everytime I start the car, BMW isn't getting my money.

No one who's written about their experience driving this car was able to detect sound coming from the speakers. I doubt it'll be offensive, unless you just hate the idea.
