I'm the same - used to drive with the latest V1 for many years. Then just got sick of the multiple false alarms. I realized I was ignoring the detector when I passed a cop with the alarm blaring (I'd turned the volume down because of all the false alarms). Valentine can't duplicate the GPS locator of the Escort 9500 series because it's patented. I have to say it's one of the best features - lock out the signal every time you pass a certain spot. It's also 'smart' enough to tell if the signal is moving, and won't lock it out. If you realize you've locked out a real signal, you can enable it. No more false alarms now, so when the detector goes off, I pay attention bigtime.

Escort/Beltronics GPS filtering is genius. Also the Valentine 1 patent on arrows expired in 2011. I can't wait till the new generation of Bel and Escort detectors comes out with arrows. The current range dates from 2009.

Does anyone here have any Intel on how good the K40 system is. I might install that next week. Reason why I'm leaning in this direction is because there is nothing showing on the rear plate. Police have been cracking down on people with bel stir plus's because they can see the rear plate mount. A couple of my buddies switched to the K40 because the hardware in the back is all behind the bumper so there is nothing visible. Plus they guarantee you won't get a ticket and will pay for your ticket/court fee's if you do.

The latest k40 radar is pretty good, but their jammers are worthless. I would still choose Bel Stir+ over K40 any day because Bel has more advanced features.

The only radar that is probably better is the Stinger VIP but that's not available in the US. I can't wait till they enter the US market to shake things up.

I agree but the fact that the rear setup shows with the Bel Stir+ makes me an easier target where I'm located. Police actually look for it and with a trained eye the Bel stir+ rear setup is an easy setup to spot. I'm torn.

You're obviously not familiar with the product. There is no rear setup on a Bel Stir+. It uses an integrated antenna hidden in the front bumper.

This is one of the reasons to go with Laser Interceptor for laser protection and Escort/Bel for radar protection.

Just got another ticket last night. Right in front of my goddamn house too. V1 didn't chirp at all - no radar, no laser - he must have just tailed me for half a block and felt like being a dick. I fucking hate cops.

I think the V1 might be lulling me into a false sense of security. I'm not as careful as I used to be, and my ticket count is creeping up quickly.

Also check if the K40 360i is shielded against Spectre (the most advanced detector cops use to detect if you are using a radar detector). The Bel is fully shielded and Bel state on their website that no radar detector detector can pick it up. Forums seem to confirm this. Previous K40 models are widely documented to be vulnerable to Spectre, and K40 makes no claims that the 360i is shielded.

After further looking into it I agree. Laser interceptors are the way to go. Thanks stealth and everyone else for their input. Does anyone have Cliffs contact info? I'm going bel stir plus with laser interceptors. Thanks again guys.

I didnt know they used laser! I'm always zipping around Tyson's...

I don't have a radar but want one. I'm not sure what a laser interceptor does but the Bel Stir is already pricey enough!

This thread is sad. I hate the crap people have to put up with on the East Coast. Here in Texas we have 75mph on most parts of the interstates now and 80mph on Toll Roads as well as I10 W of SA. If you get out on the back roads, there is no jurisdiction and you are free to slam it. I had my 535i up to 147 and climbing on several different FM type roads I won't name. I have a straight stretch out by one of my properties that I can run 1/4 mile practice in. I don't have a way to time myself but I have fun just the same.

Anyway, you can be 8 over most anywhere in Texas and not get looked at twice by a cop. We are more civil about fast driving here in Texas I think, compared to other states. Louisiana for example sucks with it's 65mph limit on I10, it's nothing but speed traps. Western states aren't bad either as they have had the 75mph deal for 10 years now. As a result, I don't have a radar detector and never have. I also have only gotten 2 speeding tickets in the last 30 years, knocking on wood as I type that.

Toll roads in houston are 65 mph. A small part of 1-10e clost to Beamont is 75. Dont know why they just don't make the freeway out of Houston 75 going to Louisanna as we usually do 75-80 regardless. You got 80 out of Sa, dang thats cool. On 1-10e in Louisanna it is 70.
