But if you are comparing stock to stock, then CP is better. But I do think my Eisenmann with Dinan sways is better than a CP car. The Dinan antiroll bars are much tighter than the CP ones.

True on stock to stock cp is better but will smoke cp package since we are tunned but we dnt know what op will end up doing if he get either car.

Follow up question. Is the active sound any different on the CP? When you say the exhaust is much better on the CP, is that from the inside of the cabin or just outside?

Exhaust on a Competition Package M5 basically has no resonators and fillers/baffles in the mufflers. So from the outside, M5 with the competition package will sound different.

The active sound is the same as far as I can tell.

It seems to me if you are even remotely debating this, you should just buy the competition package. You have always the option of modding the car later.

Agree. On active sound ive turned mine off. Sounds better without with aftermarket exhaust.

Don't forget the 'regret' factor. No one with CP regrets getting it, but it would be easy to wonder what you're missing out on if you don't.

That's why I got every option that was remotely interesting to me... that, and I hate blank buttons.

Comp package on M5 is awesome! I have driven both when I was getting my 15 M5. Sharper steering and better exhaust note. I was in the edge about the harshness of the car on rough roads (NYC and norther Jersey - these roads has patches of tarmacs amongst potholes). And no worries there. Baby and wife don't complain one bit.

Hi. I have owned both, a 2012 M5 I sold in May having travelled 30,000k's. I then went to a new 2015 Comp Pack M5. Here are my thoughts for you.

In the flesh, so pleased I went with with OEM black 343m wheels. I got the chance to see a pair of M5 sitting next to one another, one with 343m wheels and the other with 601m wheels. The 601m's just look too 'weak/pretty' (just saying) in the flesh where as the 343m's look more aggressive.

The standard car and the Comp Pack are like day and night. Most of it relates to the suspension tweaks. I was initially concerned about the Comp Pack being too firm on the road as there were initial reports around the suspension being a lot firmer, I needn't had worried. BMW have performed some real magic here. Yes, the suspension is firmer, but the damping is amazing. The whole car feels better connected and planted to the road. I went on a fun drive day a couple of weeks ago and really got to push the car. All round, the Comp Pack is a pretty amazing drive.

Yes, I love the updated iDrive and the black exhausts etc etc. But its the drive experience that I am really impressed by.

Pull the trigger and buy the Comp Pack!

I wanted the comp package just for the wheels alone. When i purchased my m5 all the comp packages i found in the color i wanted had the 343 wheels on them. It wasn't worth it for me so i just went with a regular M5 that had the 343 wheels as an option and an overall savings of a few 1000's

The difference is that the CP will ADD to your resale value while aftermarket mods may actually decrease the resale value.

What the Comp Package brings you over the standard car:

Basically the Comp Package adds a few optical changes that only an enthusiast would recognise....wheels and exhaust tips, some extra HP and a change in torque curve that is noticeable and changes to the diff. steering and suspension, which is IMO what you're really paying for.

The suspension feels more firmly damped but not harsher. The car stays flatter in bends with less body roll and feels generally tauter. The steering is more responsive with sharper turn-in and provides greater feedback while the diff allows you to apply more power earlier on in the bends for a faster exit.

To summarize, I would say that the CP brings changes that subjectively feel like ca. 30-40% of the difference in handling between a 335i and an M3

If I was going to drive the car mainly of freeways and don't drive anywhere near its limits, I wouldn't need the CP at all. If on the other hand I fully exploit the chassis' sporty characteristics on a regular basis, then CP would be a must-have option.

Other than adding an engine tune (power and torque) and after market exhaust (exhaust note), it would take a fairly skilled modder to duplicate the CP's improved handling characteristics brought by the steering, suspension and diff mods.

I'd say just save the $$ and go aftermarket, you can easily beat the CP and get a much faster car.

Of course you can modify a car and make it faster than x car. However, as stated by others who have owned or driven both, they are miles apart and drive like a different car. The CP is the total package M5. I would never go back unless I needed a strictly highway commuter, and even then I'd think twice.
OP, CP all the way, you won't look back. Drive them both and you'll see for yourself.

I would like all these people saying the cars are night and day between a cp vs non cp to provide some video of them pushing their cars into 4 wheel drifts daily. 99% of people never push their cars to the limits on the road. If you track it , then you have good reason. Get so tired of everybody acting like their test pilots. I'm sure most who have an M5 push it hard, but NO where near its capabilities CP or not. Most want bragging rights. If u track your car, once again, disregard.

Exactly and 2014 onwards, not a lot of difference between cp and non-cp. Better after market sway bars are available, better exhausts, as well. CCB option is a whole another topic though. Honestly, for a beast of this caliber, CCB should be standard. And 275/305 tires, as well. Also, BMW //M might as well just let Akra design their exhaust systems. Need some character/sound/emotion!

4 wheel drifts daily? The difference between the 2 cars is not only at the cars' limits. All you need do is drive the car reasonably briskly along a winding B road to feel the difference. The first time I noticed the difference was starting the car up in the showroom. Again when driving it off the dealer's lot. You'll feel the difference in everyday driving....increased body control, more steering feedback, faster steering, different exhaust note etc. Take it along a minor road at the speed limit and you'll immediately notice the improvements.
