1/4 drag racing launch tips
so I took the M5 to the drag strip but got mixed results and wondering if there is an optimal way to launch the car
mine is stock M5 (non-CP) with PSS tyres and around 8k miles first two runs (sports plus everything but suspension in comfort. D3 and DSC fully off. no launch control) In first run I got 12.1 but in second run I faced traction issues at launch and then end of 2nd gear and got 12.7 3rd run (sports plus everything but suspension in comfort. D3 and DSC on. no launch control) DSC restricted the launch rpm but the result 12.2 was not too bad 4th run using launch control (sports plus everything but suspension in comfort. manual and DSC off.) but got 12.3 which was surprising as I did 12.1 without launch control Would appreciate any tips from other board member to launch better..should I change any settings or launch at certain rpm. Launch control seems slower and break launching restricts rpm when DSC is on so I am thinking of using M1 (DSC off) for launch and then M2 (DSC on) for the rest of the track.

As he mentioned, With R888 tires, warm the tires up in high speed. That is burn out at the wet surface and as soon as you smash the gas and tires are spinning hit it to second gear for higher speed. Once you have done that. Everything in sport plus besides suspension. wait for the christmas tree to turn the red light before the green and smash the gas. it should hook on. And oh, thats DSC completely off. Hope I helped. Husain. |

A 12.1 is pretty good. The thing is the car really drives it's self. Post your 60 times cause that is really the only thing you can work on. A 2.000 is pretty much what you are shooting for with stock tires if you are lucky a high 1.9.
With stock tires and DSC off you are just going to light the tires up. Best is to run in MDM. Drive around the water box if you have room at your track. If you drive through the water box, you might want to throw a bit of heat into the tires to get the water off. Heat isn't going to increase the traction much or if any on stock tires. You will just have to learn how much throttle you can leave the line with. For me, I couldn't ever just mash the pedal on stock tires.

He can get to 1.8 flat with stock tires. I ran a best of 11.3 on stock tires with lowered air pressure and 1.8 flat 60 foot. The cars are hard to launch, but it's possible. Practice and find its sweet spot.
