Thumbs up PTF bootmod3 - SSR Performance Review

Holy crap! proTUNING Freaks

Now for the review. I coordinated with Zayn at SSR Performance to meet for the unlock at their shop in Orange County and immediately I felt comfortable dealing with him. He gave me a packaged deal for bootmod3, unlock, and plugs (colder NGK**). When I got there they were working on 2 other BADASS M4's, they were also getting bootmod3. Quick plug for Zayn's GTR, that beast is amazing.

Since I live in San Diego I scheduled office time nearby SSR so I let them do the work and about 5 hours later I was picking the car complete with plugs, DME's unlocked, and everything neatly put back together. The techs at SSR are cool guys and seem to enjoy what they do, that is always a good sign. Zayn set me up with account at PTF and emailed me a detailed list of instructions and resources (activation key and link to the obd agent software). I used Shah's youtube where he installs and fires up bootmod3 on his M5 to make sure I was doing things right. The only delay I experienced was with PTF loading the OTS STG 2 tune onto my account. I emailed them at 9 pm and at about 3am it was done... Nice response time!

So, now that I have the tune in my bootmod3 account I plug in the ENET cable to my laptop and fire up the bm3 app on my Android phone. For a guy with limited experience, the whole process is pretty easy. I just tap the OTS tune and hit Flash. About 2 minutes later I have tune loaded. I turn the car on and the first thing I notice is the cold start gone. It was so satisfying to not hear the loud exhaust in the garage, especially with dp's. Once I start driving I notice the exhaust is a bit different (in a great way) and the throttle response is so much crisper. The first pull was in second gear MDM and Sport+... WOW... fried the tires! Keep in mind I'm coming from JB4 /BCM map 1--have to run map 1 on non-comp due to trims/AFR as map 2 will run too lean. With the OTS tune I can run a little more boost and be safer as it brings AFR to a safer level. Second pull was in 3rd and that, too, fried the tires. I guess I should upgrade the tires now. Everything about the tune is so smooth, I can't imagine how much better a custom tune can be.

Thank you, SSR, and thank you Dzenno for the excellent response time.

Welcome to the flash tune side Do you still keep the JB4 to log, or does bootmod3 do that now?

Its good to hear of successful tune options out there. You should dyno to see where your stage 2 is at.

Bootmod3 can do that with my laptop plugged via ENET or I can plug in JB4 on Map 4. Yes, I will need to dyno it... We should do a dyno day at EAS.

Who installed your SSP clutch?

Alex@Mission Performance did my clutches...he cranked it out in one day too. Also, had 3.5 bar MAP sensors put in. I'm currently breaking them in; once thats done, I'll meet up with Alex to crank up the wtq.

So I suppose you'll still use the JB4 to log data, since it would be a pain to drag around a laptop. I'm trying to figure out a way to log data, but not sure I want to go JB4; there's other less expensive options I think.

Will you be tweaking/tuning your own flash files now?

Alex does clutches? I thought he only tuned. Good to know. Clutches and 3.5 are next for me. But that's in a few months.

I might just get a small laptop or the optional hardware dongle thing from bootmod3. I don't plan on tweaking anything myself, I am not competent enough. I bet most tuners will be on the bootmod3 train shortly, you just pay for their license and they can remote into your tune for tweaking. It's already being offered by DME and HCP.

I'm using jb4 on map 0 to log. Using bm3 uses data and jb4 doesn't.

Do you mean map 4?

Map 0: JB4 disabled
Map 1: 4-5psi over stock additive. Suggested for most pump gas applications with and without BCM.
Map 2: 22psi peak absolute. BCM required. In some cases we've found this map maxes out the factory fuel trims. In those cases only map1 or map3 can be used without meth injection.
Map 3: 18psi peak absolute.
Map 4: Stock map w/ CANbus enabled
Map 5: //M map ramping boost up to redline (BETA)
Map 6: Custom target map
Map 7: 25psi peak (e.g. race gas, BCM required)
Map 8: Progressive meth map. Peak boost based on meth additive. 0 = 19psi, 75 = 30psi. BCM suggested

I don't have a backend flash. I have a full HCP tune so I want jb4 disabled. I use strictly for logging and then sending it in a emails.

My experience as well with bootmod3, really just awesome. I log without using data just with my laptop when need be. I start the agent and trick is to log in once and go back to the login screen and then click on offline mode. That way you don't need data or internet to log. My area where I do runs doesn't have signal and if this didn't exist I wouldn't have been able to log.

Neat work-around, thanks. I will have to try it tonight for research purposes.

Did a pull in 4th and I'm so happy to see trims and AFR well below what they were with just JB4/BCM.

I am wondering if there is room for e85 (2-3 gallons)...

I use 3 gallons and my trims never go over 25. HPFP looks good as well.

thank you and really happy to hear your impressions with it so far. Definitely shoot some logs over if you'd like to try some E85 in there and we can review how your HPFP and trims are looking. Running ethanol on the stock tune with a piggyback stacked vs. on top of another tune is a different ballgame due to fuel targets and overall fuel demand.
