Well, it is time for an upgrade because from September 2014 all new BMW have to fulfill the EURO6 emission standard and at the moment the S63tu only fulfills EURO5 whereas AMG already has EURO6.
So in my opinion BMW M has to react!

Yeah. I don't believe they ever offered a different engine as an option or though an LCI. But Blue.Thunder's response makes sense: maybe they were never forced to before.

maybe google lies to me, but i can't find any difference between euro5 and euro6 petrol engines, only changes i can are made towards diesel engines

Blue Thunder, I'm planning to order a MY15 M5 as soon as they'll let us in the US (estimate is early May). Are you saying that the suggested engine change will be for all MY15 cars, or will there be a separate anniversary edition next to the new MY15 car and only the anniversary edition will get the engine changes?

In my opinion the EURO6 emission standard has to be fulfilled by ALL M5/6 engines from Sept. 2014 regardless it concerns a standard M5/6 or a edition model. BMW M has no other opportunity.

But I think BMW M uses this obligation to produce an edition model with a power upgrade like said above.

We will get official new information on the M Festival on June 19th - 22th. I will attend the festival and we will have a meeting with Albert Biermann, vice president of engineering for BMW M.
Let me assure you that I will ask him all these questions and more.
