Too Much of A Good Thing Isn't Always Good!

Well, I had been thinking of getting a DD to kick around town,...run errands,...commute, etc., and I had contemplated getting an '09 or '10 535xi. However, after searching numerous listings for 535s within 75 miles of my zip code, I decided to go with a plain Jane 528xi. Part of my rational for doing this was that I didn't want to use either my M5 or X5M as errand boys or commuter mules. In addition, I wanted the price to be as close to $10k as possible and the vehicle to be in the best mechanical condition as possible. Oh, the paint and interior needed to be acceptable and not worn out.

Here are a things I like about the '09 528xi:
1) it's a walk-away car,...as there's no need to even lock the doors - :-)
2) it's clean
3) it's tight (the chassis) - for a non-M vehicle
4) it's a lot more simple than either of my M vehicles
5) it's quieter,...rolls very smoothly on the Hwy
6) it's wayyyy lighter than the M vehicles (...especially the X5M,....Duh!)

That said, I can see why folks go nutts over the screaming V10 in the E60 M5, as the chassis is much lighter than the F10 series by all measures. I would imagine that the F10 twin turbo motor in an E60 would be stupid fast,...given the high torque and high Hp rating. Note, this is not to take away anything from the V10,...it's just that I drive more with 'torque' than with hp.

Anyways,...here's to my new-to-me DD,...'09 528xi! I hope to get at least 50k worry free miles out of it.

Color: Space Grey / Black interior

Edit: Added a few pics of my DD 528xi! Note, there are a few things I think BMW should have retained from the E60 to the F10. They are:

1) The HVAC Control System (The E60 HVAC can be fine tuned by the driver. The driver can determine what percentage of air to go to windshield, vents, or the floor!)

2) Windshield Wipers (they can be raised without the paint being scratched).

Check this,...I test drove a nice 2010 535xi Sport!,...with 76K on the clock! I would have bought it had I known about it. The 'Sport Suspension' really makes the car sit/feel very planted! Oh well.

Thanks, You just have me an idea. I don't know why I never thought about it. I'll be shopping for the same car in 2wd for a commuting car next couple of weeks.

Well,...I took it back! Believe it or not,..the 528xi is a solid car. It was solid through and through,...given some 117k miles on it,...I hope I don't regret my decision to let it go,...as I decided to get a 2010 535xi,...Sport! Believe it or not,..it's the same color combo!

...here are few pics!

...I'm pretty much done with cars for a while!

Lol, in fact I was thinking the same, after seeing the small price differential. How to you like the 535i, generally.

Well, the 535i,...in this case 535xi,...does everything the 528i (xi) can do and more. The 528 has good off the line response/torque,....and is pretty much a fast car,...as it does have 230Hp. Once up to hwy speeds, the 528 cannot play with the 535! The linear pull of the 535 is way ahead of the 528. Now, as a DD, the 528 fit my needs; however, it didn't fit my 'wants' too well. The initial buyer of this 535 must have ordered the car,. as it has an option combo few X-Drive cars have,...Comfort Access, Comfort Seats,...Premium Package, SAT, Sport Suspension/Trim, PDC, etc. Many E60 535xi's I had searched had hit or miss on a number of those options,...especially the PDC. Which was high on my list of options to have!

I had consider adding the sportier springs/dampers and 18" wheel combo to the 528xi,...but it still would have still come short of the factory 535xi Sport setup!

Hope this makes sense...
